Motox, has your B12 level ever been checked? If not, I would insist on it being tested. Low B12 can cause the issues you are describing. This can be done before the Emg studies.
Do you have a history of back problems? An Emg is done to check for a pinched nerve. Any type of injury, including lifting something wrong around the house? To be perfectly honest, granted I am not a dr, but Emg studies are not that reliable, about 75% accuracy for back problems. Back in the 80's & 90's Emg studies were done on anyone with a neck or back issue. The Emg would come back normal, when the person had surgery the surgeons would find nerves that were pinched/compressed. This is why they are not the most reliable test out there. We rarely saw a client have a positive Emg that truly had nerve problems. Drs do not do them much any more. However, the Emg is an excellent test to dx carpal tunnel syndrome.
They are not one of the most pleasant tests out there, but manageable. If you are having back problems, I would ask for an MRI instead. Take care.
