Darla, it's like having chronic tendonitis AND bursitis of the shoulder. Even though I had acromioplasty done on both shoulders (reshaping of the acromion, the space for nerves and blood vessels to pass through) the inflammation is chronic. Most of the time, it's an ache. Sometimes it feels like sand or pebbles are in the joint. Sometimes, it's like an explosion...over and over! Sometimes, it gets stuck.
I leaned over to reach for something the other day...it stuck...and then exploded! I never know when it's going to happen...always takes me by surprise. Sometimes, I'll be sitting perfectly still and BAMM! Sigh.
Most of the time, I take ibuprofen and put my heating pad on it. Once in a while, I take a Benadryl, too. Could be a placebo type effect, but I swear the antihystamine helps the swelling and calms it down quicker.
I've had to go for physical therapy to keep from getting 'frozen shoulder' once already and the symptoms have recently started up again.
I also had an ulnar nerve transposition due to an injury that crushed it and caused it to subluxate. They did a submuscular procedure, so now if I overuse my forearm, it aches like the flu times 1000. Rest, ice, ibuprofen...sometimes followed by a heating pad...is about all I can do for it...though nothing 'really' helps much.
