40mg oxi 2x day wearing off earlier feeling anxious

I’m taking OxyContin 40mg twice a day, the doctor just prescribed 10 mg hydrocodone for breakthrough pain and they are not doing anything I ran out of my medicine one day early and had to take 20 mg every four hours to stave off the wds. I also take 2 mg Xanax twice a day in addition to 10mg dexedrine twice today. I’ve been on the Oxsee about six months and it’s starting to feel like it’s wearing off early and my anxiety is getting bad, I feel like I’m only in a good mood when the second one kicks in. I was on methadone for 5 years and Saboxonefor 9 And I realized “hey I have not failed a drug test ever” The Suboxone started making me crazy, where as the The Oxicotton would give me a little lift and put me in better spirits and help me with my day. So I was thinking about increasing my OxyContin milligram but in six months is it going to be the same? I’m going to ask for Percocet next time as the hydrocodone did not do anything. Rescue medication is so critical for me when taking a drug like this because sometimes it’s impossible to get to the pharmacy for me. I take 2 mg of Xanax twice a day and 10 mg of Dexedrine occasionally, lately I have not been taking it because it just makes me nervous. I was taking 6 mg a day of Xanax but have been taking 4mg for these last couple of months. Is there anyone else that takes oxi twice a day that can give me some feedback. I just don’t feel like they’re lasting as long So I’m having to take Xanax because anxiety from the withdraws Sorry everything is so scattered, I had a wonderful post that I accidentally erased😬. Basically I don’t feel better until the second half of the day when the second oxi is in my body. My wife is pregnant I have two kids I’m currently unemployed and feel like a loser. That’s my first post. Looking forward to meeting everybody

Decreasing your xanax probably has a lot to do with your increased anxiety. Benzodiazepines are highly addictive when taken for long periods of time. It takes a long time to adjust to any decrease in dosage. Have you discussed your increased anxiety with your psychiatrist/?

What makes you think/feel that the Oxycontin is wearing off early? Is it just the feeling of anxiety? How long does a dose last for? Does the second dose wear off early too? You didn't mention pain levels etc in your first post so it's a little hard to give you an answer without more info. How many breakthrough doses are you taking per dayl? And during the time the Oxycontin is working, does it work well?

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to actually be helpful in my response.

As M&G said, the increase in anxiety could definitely be from the decrease in Xanax.

I am confused. Are you taking 2 40 mg OxyContin per day, or 40 mg of Oxycodone twice a day? Or are you taking more of either one? The 10 mg of hydrocodone how many times per day? Which opiate are you taking 20 mg of every 4 hours? How often are you taking more than prescribed of the opiates? OxyContin is the extended release form of Oxycodone. Oxycodone is immediate release. You are taking a lot of Xanax per day and the dexidrine will add to the nervous/anxiety feeling. Most doctors will not have patients on all 3 drug classes at one time, in fact most pain management doctors these days will not prescribe opiates and benzodiazepines together because of the increased risks of accidental overdose.
You can be dismissed from receiving scheduled medications if you are self medicating and taking more than prescribed.
OxyContin delivers a steady dose of Oxycodone into the bloodstream over 12 hours. Oxycodone is the immediate release version of Oxycodone. Many people don’t feel the extended release version kick in like they may on the immediate versions and assume it’s not working. You aren’t cutting the OxyContin in half are you? You could easily overdose if you are.
You may be confusing your anxiety symptoms as the symptoms of ‘withdrawal’.
If you are taking more than prescribed, you need to stop doing so immediately or you are putting ongoing treatment at risk, and could accidentally overdose. These medications are dangerous if misused and we don’t want to see anything bad happen to anyone.
If you are taking the meds exactly as prescribed, you should talk to your doctor and discuss the anxiety, and your feelings of withdrawal and see what h/she recommends.

It would also help to know what the pain meds are for. What type of pain? I was on Methadone for 9 years and had to take myself off after moving because where I moved, no pain management doctor would accept me while I was on the methadone. They put me on Oxycontin which I used before but it did not work well for nerve pain. People respond differently to different medications. It sounds like you need to have a discussion with your doctor to have an overview of your medications. That can be challenging but often beneficial in the long term.

I’ve dropped Xanax to twice a day. Discontinued dexadrine. Broke both shoulders, ongoing shingle pain, neuropathic and abdominal pain. Ptsd. Etc. I take my oxiCONTIN twice a day . (Ihave woke up and taken one and gone back to bed and forgot I took it on occasion but I fixed this). My wife keeps me in check. I got hydrocodone for breakthrough. i was short one day and had to use the hydrocodone for wds. I have noticed the OxyContin is wearing off early and my anxiety seems to correspond to the 10hours after last oxi dose. I also get diarrhea. I have a long long relationship with my dr and have spent endless hours discussing pros and cons of pain meds. Sorry I was unclear

Dropping down on the Xanax could also be causing the issues.

Hello & welcome to the forum. about the OxyContin not lasting the full 12 hours, this can happen with some people. A lot can depend on how your body metabolizes it. It’s important to take an ER medication at the same time every day, set an alarm if necessary. If it’s withdrawals usually it’s a runny nose & an uptick in pain that goes away after the 2nd dose.

We aren’t drs, but this really sounds like anxiety has the upper hand. Besides Xanax, what coping skills are you using to help yourself? A lot of people split their doses of Xanax through out the day to keep things level.

Asking for an increase with OxyContin would most likely be something your dr will not consider. PM drs are going by the CDC guidelines, to avoid being red flagged. Another issue is insurance paying too.

Has your dr tried you on any of the medications used to treat neuropathic pain? Unfortunately, pain medications have little effect on this.

Stray dog is right. Opiates typically do not work that well at nerve pain, especially shingles type pain. There are others that do much better at treating that type of pain, and may be an option to replace the Xanax and treat Neuro pain at the same time.
Your pm doctor can make suggestions for effective nerve pain meds.
Could you be anticipating a bit or watching the clock regarding your OxyContin? Sometimes we can start anticipating that it’s almost time for the next dose of meds and get over focused on it. It’s happened to many of us over the years. We start fearing being in pain, or experience slight increases in pain as the meds wearing off early or not working as well/lasting as long. The more we focus on it, the more we experience the symptoms. I have found distracting myself, watching tv, reading, or another distraction causes me not to focus on time or how I feel in that moment as much. It also helps pass the time.
