Hi, has anyone here played golf with the spinal cord stimulator implant? I am scheduled for the trial and know that I can not play during that time. I worked all my life and I want to enjoy my retirement playing golf. I will not have the surgery done if I can not play. Thanks

Hi Bobby Smith, we've had quite a few people over the years have these units implanted & they were sorry they did it, not many success stories. Two years ago an article came out after a one year study of various implanted devices causing more harm than good, including being worse off. The top two devices was the the SCS units & implanted insulin devices. During this study on the units neurosurgeons & orthopedic surgeons were interviewed & said they would not implant one in a patient. I am not trying to scare you by any means, this is a personal decision only you can make. Sadly, doctors leave out a great deal of information to patients & give a different viewpoint, especially with the war on drugs, pain medication.
A lot of people have good relief during the trial but after the implant the results may not be good. The leads they implant has to scar over with scar tissue this can take months. I can't answer your question about playing golf, I have golfers in my family & know it involves some twisting which may cause an issue.
I can't decide if you have had surgery or not by reading your post. As I said this is something only you can decide on, but it would be a solid pass for me. I've got 3 close friends that went that path & they have not done well.
Take care.

Hi, I had one since 2014. I just got through charging it for this week. (Pain in the you know what). I have to sit perfectly still for about 4 hours. Some people charge more than once a week. Depends on how it is set. I get some relief however, I wouldn’t do it over again. Mine is MRI safe but I have to go around the world to get an MRI. It was suppose to help me to stop Opiods. I have more now. The pain doesn’t go away completely. I have more than just back pain as well now too. This is just a tens machine on your insides. The actual machine wouldn’t limit me though. My back is what limits me. Hope this helps.
