Bebbles, I second what Mercy & Grace said. October a year ago my 75 year old husband had a laminectomy & decompression at L4, he had thigh pain. We saw a neurosurgeon, he spent a lot of time with us. I had already checked this dr out & he had excellent reviews, was voted the number 1 neurosurgeon the year before. I was planning on a 2nd opinion, but after spending so much time with him & the information he gave us, I ditched that idea. He told my husband that he would have less leg pain when he woke up, I thinking sure, lol. The 45 minute surgery took almost 2 hours. My husband had tons of spurring & arthritis that had to be cleaned up, this did not show up so much on his myelogram & Post myelogram CT. He has a pace maker so he couldn't have an MRI. Before I forget, he had less leg pain when he woke up.
His recovery went just fine no issues except the incision was a little slow to heal because he is diabetic. He was off pain pills in 5 days. He has done fine.
Get yourself an appt with a good neurosurgeon.
