I've been on buprenorphine since 2008 except for 2010 when I weaned off for a year.
I slowly worked up to what is considered a huge dose (Average dose for WD and maintainance is 16mg to 24mg)
I take a whopping 32mg a day in 4 divided 8mg doses.
It is a lot but I have a heck of a lot of pain. Fact is I feel normal while taking it. While on regular "Mu-agonist" opiates such as oxy's etc I always needed very high amounts and they no longer worked on my pain.
The problem is bupe binds like super glue to the opioid receptor sites and the hydro has scant chance on getting into the receptor so it's a waste. However, after hip replacement, the pain was bad for a few days so they gave me hydromorphone at a high dose and somehow it was able to displace the buprenorphine and offered good results.

With bustan the dose is low but still more powerful the hydrocodone.
Right now with the so called "crisis" I am not sure I can get the surgeon to write for hydromorphome or morphine so I am scared. It would only be for maybe 3 days but doctors are so scared to write for opiates anymore.
My guess is they will offer 5 or 10mg oxycontin which is a total waste of time.
Maybe my pain doctor will write for hydromorphone but the practice no longer writes for Mu opiates just bupe or OTC stuff, Lyrica etc.

I hope that explains why the two will not work unless you take a very high dose.

You could try it. The Mu agonist may have a positive effect on the IBS as it slows intestinal motility simply put it's constipating
I'm just not sure if it can break through the hold that buprenorphine has on the receptor sites.
Buprenorphine Hits the Mu agonist sites but also has an antagonist effect.
