Spoke with my Dr today and told him about my allergy to morphine. So he will use hydromorphone instead. I am not to familiar with the Bupi I just ran across it doing research on pain pumps. But I intend on just waiting to see how the hydro does with me and go from there. Have there been many people who experienced the spinal headaches? Or anyone who had problems with the tube slipping out because of too much physical movement?

Over the years we had a couple of members that got a spinal headache. I have seen more spinal headaches from myelograms using the soluble water based die. I think some people are more prone than others.

Haven't read of anyone's catheter moving. You will be given discharge instructions along with a pamphlet from Medtronics with the listed do's & don'ts. People with pumps can lead an active life. it depends on what the activity is.

That’s good to hear. I’m a water aerobics instructor so I have already begun to prepare modified routines just in case this would cause an issue.

Started buprenorphine in 2008 went off from 2009 to 2010 back on after a year off
Dose was two milligrams four times a day and gradually up to current eight milligrams four times a day

Cutie, the swan is on oral medication, only certain drugs can be used in a pain pump.

Have you had your pump implanted & if so, how are you doing?

Thursday is my day! And so ready because my Dr would not prescribe me any pain meds. So I had to take temporary leave of absence from work. Does anyone know if the medicine in the pump will stop the incision pain.

The surgeon should give give you some oral pain medication for the post op pain, which is considered acute pain. You need to call & speak to the nurse today about getting a script for some oral meds.

What is your drs protocol on filling your pump with the pain medication. The pumps are filled with saline when they are implanted & the dr often wait a couple of weeks before putting pain medication in them.

You need to get all of this nailed down before Thursday so you don't get left holding the bag.

I know the medicine is not in the pump right after surgery. I’m referring to a week after which is when I will have medicine in my pump. And I was wondering if I will need the oral medication or if the pump will alleviate that pain. I understand the medication doesn’t help headaches, fractures and etc.

The medication in the pump is not going to be of much help for post op pain a week out from surgery. Your dr should give you 7-10 days worth of oral pain medication. It will be a low dose & I suggest that you add in some Extra Strength Tylenol for a bit of a boost. Seven days out the worst of your post op pain should be minimal.

Do you have any idea what your drs protocol is on titrating up your pump medication? When will your dr allow you to use your PTM for break through pain?

I do not no his titration protocol. Nor my bolts schedule. We are to discuss this the day of surgery while he is marking and planning his incision area. We just discussed when he will fill the pump with medicine and what kind. Synchromed III is the device. I honestly I have not been prescribed any pain opioids since December and had to rely on muscle relaxers and such which haven’t done a thing but put me to sleep. So having to wait for the pump to be filled, titration and bolus is nothing compared to not having any pain relief since December. I’m assuming this is why they told me to expect to be there for at least 8 hours to go over this stuff,
