Dreaming of being in pain... bites.

So due to pain I couldn't sleep last night, got up took some pain medication, had a snack (makes the meds kick in quicker for some reason), stayed up till 3am-ish, then went to bed.

Hubby gets up for work at 530am, and I was awake, unable to sleep due to pain still.

So finally around 7am I fall asleep. I had a dream that I was having open back surgery done to me, while I was wide awake. The doctor in the dream kept doing that thing I hate "does this hurt"? "Does this hurt worse"? Everyone says your not supposed to feel anything in your sleep or something (at least those w/o chronic pain). It hurt so badly I can't even describe it. It was so real that upon waking up, I had to go check the scar on my back where they went in for the fusion to make sure that it was okay. I can still picture me in the dream getting up and looking in the mirror to see my back and this huge gaping wound being open. This I have to say is the most "real" dream I've had on pain, ever. I have dreams all the time about getting into car accidents, falling off cliffs and being stabbed in the back, stuff like that. Where my mind is finding a way to express the pain I'm in even sleeping. This one is just bugging me for some reason.

Anyways, not sure why shared this. Just venting I supposed.

TDodrn:  I do this all the time with migraines - I will dream all night that I am being shot in the head, beaten with steel pipes in the head, etc. and then will wake up with the absolute worst migraine ever - by that point, they are so bad that it takes an ER visit to help.  I HATE IT!  Your pain is real but you feel as if you are only dreaming.  Really weird!  Glad to know I am not the only one (not really, I am sorry that you have the pain- didn't mean it like that - just glad to know someone else understands - my family looks at me like I am crazy when I tell them this)!
