Hi there.
I am sorry you had an accident. i had a similar accident in 2000 and i still have damage from it.
The problem with Xrays is, they don't show soft tissue damage. They do them at first to make sure there is no bone fractures that could cause spinal cord injury. The problem with xrays taken right after injury is, they don't always show damage!!! I can't tell you how many times an xray cleared a patient with a fall saying they didn't have a fracture. But then the patient kept complaining of pain, and I went ahead and had to order xrays after the doc said no. Stupid doctors don't want to order it on a poor patient, of course. cause then they'd get no money. god forbid they don't make a buck off writing an order for a xray!!!
Well, i got another xray, and GUESS what!? The person had a fracture. Even though I had to endure the doc's attitude, I had to stand up for my patient, who was suffering. I have done this more times than I can count in my career.
Even a CT doesn't always show all the problems right away. If you do a MRI or CT a few days post accident, they may find significant differences since the tissues have had time to swell. Unless it was a SEVERE problem (like hemorrhage), it often takes time for the body's systems to produce a noticeable deviation from normal. I hope I am explaining this right.
Anyway, I hope the doc listens and gets you the correct tests you need, and correct pain control. Take it very easy and try not to overexert yourself for a while. Be especially careful in monitoring yourself for deviations from normal, and write these things down. I know I have difficulty remembering odd things happening to myself, so I write things down. That way I can show the doc's that this stuff is real enough for me to be concerned about
.
Take care and tell us what happens. Take care of yourself and rest!!!
