myofascial triggerpoint needle treatment

I have seen a few references on here to trigger point injections. i wondered if any people having triggerpoint therapy have heard of or tried IMS (intramuscular stimulation) needle treatments. for those that dont know it is an aggressive needle treatment that relies on the mechanical nature of the needle to stimulate the stretch reflex to occur which relaxes the triggerpoint.

so has anyone tried this? it worked a MIRACLE on my DH who had been debilitated by full body SEVERE (made him cry all the time and he has always played contact sports and been very tough) pain for over 3 years. he was off work often and was devastated at the thought that he would live the rest of his days not being able to get out of bed let alone play with our girls or go to work. the multitude of docs (pain spec, internist, sports, neuro, etc, etc,) all said there was nothing they could do and i dont think most even had the slightest idea how excruciating his pain was everyday. after one treatment we were so hopeful because he was in less pain than he had been since he played lacrosse (3 years earlier). that was 8 months ago and he is still 90 to 95% pain free. he went from twice per week treatments down to once every couple weeks now. we are hoping he can go down to once a month eventually. but even if he had to go every week it would still be well worth the time and $$ to have his life back!!!!!

anyway...he has his life back and our girls have their dad back. i just cry w joy when i think about the miracle that IMS has been for us. to my shock though, after going back to docs and telling them what worked they just sort of shrugged. they hadnt even heard of IMS. in canada it is performed mostly by physiotherapists.

no one that might benefit from it has even heard of IMS. what about you all? have you heard of it? tried it?

PS all you Fibromylagics may want to know that ALL his FM symptoms went away too!

no actually. unless you think of acupuncture on steriods lol. acupuncture was fairly painless for my dh (and didnt work for his pain). ims....i think because it actually targets the heart of the muscles' trigger point....was (is) excruciating for him. in his words the pain of treatment is 'exquisite' and unlike any pain he knew existed. and this was coming from someone debilitated by chronic pain for the last 3 years (aka he aint no wussy). i joke w him and say that now he knows what its like to be in labour...hehe. you would never be able to stay in treatment if you didnt live day to day in a LOT of pain. he says the pain (of ims) is worth it and he would go every day if that is what was needed. cause now he is living life again....and isnt that worth just about anything?
