I have been so depressed the last 3 days

Hi Pain!

Please...PLEASE get yourself to your doctor. There is no way you have to suffer like this. You are clinically depressed and the Cymbalta isn't doing the job. There are many good antidepressants to choose from so you can have YOU back. Please make that call first thing Monday morning.

Also, do you have help caring for DH? Being a caregiver is a huge load. I know when my father was terminal and had the beginning of alzheimers we had him at home. They lived next door and it was almost more than 3 of us could handle. You need a break along with help for the depression.

Hello Pain, I can only say what Chutzie and Curley has said. When I first crashed I cried from the time I woke until I was seen by the dr late that afternoon. Where all those tears came from I have no idea, except it was like a dam breaking. My dr put me on an anti-depressant and it made my life so much easier. I was lucky the first we tried worked. But then after a year or or so, it quit working and we had already increased it to the max. I am on Lexapro now and I have done fine. Chronic pain and depression go hand in hand for some reason. Hi Gramps, Everyone

This is my first post here. I've been reading here for a few days now and have marveled at the true concern the souls here seem to have for others who suffer as they do...so I keep coming back (Chutz, you really rock, you all do, you're all so brave and giving...while you suffer so...).

I haven't posted any intro of any kind but will. I just wanted to ask a couple of quick questions for now of Gramps...

I have the book called Feeling Good but it isn't written by Aaron Beck but by David Burns, M.D.

Is this the book you referenced that helped you so much? Is there another book called Feeling Good by Mr. Beck (didn't think two books could have the same name by different authors)?

I was wondering too, you mentioned that maybe pain was relying on anti-d's too much. Pain's post said she'd (ugh, not sure if pain is male or female, sorry pain) only been taking the anti-d for a few months.

Considering such a short period of time of a few months and that cymbalta is the first one she tried (not sure if this is the case, may have missed some of pains posts), do you still think that pain may be relying on them too much?

I've gone through quite a few anti-d's for years (currently on none 6+ months) before I really felt like I gave the anti-d's the chance to help me if they were going to.

If you just feel that any therapy other than drugs, providing its effective of course, is better than pills, than I understand where you're coming from. I felt like that too and did the therapy for years before trying the pills. Tried the pills and now I'm back where I started in thought...I'd rather get non-pill form help...

You've gotten me interested in Cognitive Therapy and I knew I had that book. Was excited until I saw it wasn't the author you mentioned.
