Has anyone tried Suboxone?

I've been wanting to stop taking oxycontin (not because the pain is better) and I was wanting to ask my doctor about this drug. I've been reading about it but wanted to know if anyone here has taken it with good or bad results?

 Any advice would be great. Im asking my PC to send me to another PM dr cause the one I have now is a jerk and Im tired of being treated like I don't matter. {{sigh}}

I have stated before that Suboxone has been a godsend for me, it helps with the pain but doesnt have any of the nasty side effects that other opiods have. I'm on a very high dose but I guess taking 2-4 mgs every 4-6 hours helps with pain more then taking a high dose like me (8mg every 8 hours). And it has a very long half life, 37 hours. I just went to a thing at a counciling center talking about addictions and they said 8 out of 10 people who take pain meds will be come addicted and start addictive behaviour which scared me (I'm going to go work at a Impatient addiction rehab center hopefully), but I'm upset that they have absoutly no doctors around where I live that prescribe it so I have to drive and hour and half each way to my doctor. And Suboxone is not covered by many insurance, and they are about $6-8 each pill for the 8mgs. And alot of the doctos that prescribe it dont take insurance either. I dont take mine for addiction anyways, I take it cause I feel that my pain can be controlled in other ways especially at the age of 25, so they're tapering me off so I can see what my pain really is and take it from there, but since I have been taking opiods since I was 19 I had to be tapered off since I was very dependent on them. I just wish they would advertise Suboxone more cause I think ALOT of more people can benifit off of it, but I guess they dont want to since doctor's have to be certified to prescribe it and can only have so many patients on it (between 30 and 100 depending on how long they've been certified). And generics are coming out in less then a year and they're doing trials on rods they put in the arm of the same med which I really wanna try cause I really really hate taking any pill, I always gag on them.

I'm also on that "Suboxone" site. It has been a Godsend so far, I'm on 14mg down from 16mg and would like to taper to the lowest possible dosage and still get pain Relief.

I have low back pain and knee pain. Failed back surgery and a spondylolethesis L4-L5 grade III

Still have pain but managable now with suboxone also, no thought of increasing the dose-Wow that is a blessing for me.

It is a VERY expensive med, but there is a program to ge them for free but they send the medication to the doctor's office, so you have to pick them up from the doctor's office monthly. THe suboxone is about $6 each but it's worth every penny. My favorite part is how fast it works since it's dissolved under the tongue, so I get pain releif within 15-20 minutes. Suboxone is 30-50 times stronger then morphine and I take 24mg so you can do the math, i'm on a very high dose. And if you take the suboxone right and taper off it the right way you get hardly any withdrawals. I've been on it for 5 months and I feel absoutly great.

Check and see what people think of the Memory Foam. It didn't work for
me. I had to return it. (It was extremely difficult to get my money back
as you can understand) I only slept on it for a few hours.
We have different problems so it may well work for you.

This is off topic for this thread but i have the name brand memory foam bed and love it. Am thankful I bought it when I was still working as I couldn't afford it now. But the free pillows they gave me with it are horrible. Used it one night and put it back in the box. So the pillows may not give you the best indication of the mattress. I think my mattress had a 3 or 4 month free trial period, and I got it from a local furniture store rather than over the tv so they come and set it up AND take it back if needed. But that was over 3 years ago.

I will get the name brand if I have money left after having to buy a new tire. I hit a huge pothole as did 8 other people and it bleww out. Police did an incident report as they fixed the hole. Boy the tow trucks were busy. This was in Westchester County. I think they have more $ then NYC lol

Yes it is stronger then methadone but only per dosage. In other words, some find oxycodone stronger then morphine. It is an individual thing. But bupe is 30x stronger then morphine (I believe) but again one may feel the subjective effects not as strong. Also, bupe has a ceiling effect where dose's beyond 32 mg have no greater effect. In fact, they state that "less can be more"

There is an induction period where they find what does works best. As a pain med, Suboxone may be considered off lable but that may change as they are a lot of trials going on.
