Acupuncture

I did the Chinese method where they use needles. I was terrified of needles at that time, it was painless. The needles are so fine and small. Now, I did this for a neck injury due to an auto accident, I was rear-ended and I was at a complete stop. I was knocked a few feet. I tried 3 months of PT and it only felt good while I was laying there. I did 9 treatments and was pain free. It worked for me, but was expensive. My insurance back then would not cover it. It was still considered experimental,lol. I actually fell asleep during a treatment because I could relax. Susie

Hi Ry,  I did acupuncture a couple of years ago and it helped, but only for a few days at a time.  I ended up going twice a week.  It was wonderful!  I was under alot of stress in my job at the time and it sure helped ALOT with that...it was very relaxing.  As with others, our insurance did not pay and it was expensive but I was working then and it helped so I went.  So if a surgeon would be doing the acupuncture I would think he'd know what he is doing...I'd have it again if I could afford it.  Good luck if you decide to try it!  Also, to everyone...my Easter prayer for all of us is that our pain will be relieved...God bless all of you and have a wonderful holiday.

I've never had acupuncture but only because I can't afford it. I've read about it, and even taken a seminar where it was demonstrated. The research generally supports its use for pain relief, although it won't cure most conditions. I think you want to find someone experienced in traditional Chinese acupuncture, and if they're also an MD it's the best of both worlds. The one thing I learned at the seminar was to make sure your practitioner uses disposable needles. They're very small, and are thrown away after use. Some people still try to sterilize them, but I guess this can be a little riskier. Most people I know have said they never felt the needles being inserted. The ones I saw demonstrated were so tiny....nothing like you'd think from most doctor's offices!
