Is this allowed...

       

             I found a really interesting site while completely bored. I read the rules but am unsure if it would be okay to post.

   Its a site where you type in you name as it was given and it gives you the meaning and an over view of what your personality traits could be like.  Mine was spot on and I was so interested and amazed that I forgot about my pain.  There is no signing up, just type in a name and boom...thats it!

Thought it might be fun, but dont want to break the rules so can someone let me know. 

There's nothing wrong with linking to someone's web site....even if they have something to gain from it.....as long as you are a legitimate member of a web site and do something there to congtribute to the community aside from just spamming commercial links!

Personally, as a very experienced webmaster myself, I don't think you should worry about it too much.

Links to helpful web sites (commercial or otherwise) are allowed when they are posted by someone without any "vested interest" AND whose purpose is NOT to solicit, advertise, promote, fundraise, etc

As long as you have no Vested interest and are not solitating ppl to go to another forum for your gain.....
I would think it is okay ......Just my opinion and understanding off above rule....LYN

I guess it's a bit of a grey area, Freya, although Chutzie (our chronic pain forum moderator) probably needs to weigh in. The thing is there are lots of things that could distract us and if we all started posting them here this board could get cluttered pretty fast. Plus there's the issue of evaluating other websites and whether some of them might without your knowledge be spammers, etc. I like coming to this board because it's focused primarily on chronic pain issues, and I know I can go to other things any time I want. If it's a useful resource, then maybe doing what the moderator above suggests is the direction to take - submit it for consideration in the resource section. But just for my opnion I'd had to see the site get too cluttered with off topic links.

Wow, I wish I would have kept the web site adress, I figured it wasnt really worth all the back and forth for such a little silly thing. I dont really post off subject matters very often, it would have to be something that was really interesting or fun and leave you feeling better for having done it or read it.
You didnt have to add any personal info except your first name or just your last name. Thats why this site seemed very reputable, you were not asked to give any identifying information. Tons of people have the first name Tom or Jane or the last name Smith or Jones(unless your last name is not common at all) so I guess it depends on what you feel comfortable with and what the site demands from you. If they claim to need everything except your S.S#, I would never feel okay about that. But just a first name without a b-day seems safe..or visa versa if you wanted to see what your last name means.
Anyhow, Sorry Red wish I wouldnt have assumed
