Had my 1st injection last Thursday.  I still feeling the pain, stiffness, tingling & numbess from my neck to to fingers.  Has anyone had success with these injections?  If so, did the 1st one work or did it take more than one for it to finally work?  I'm so drained & just can't function.  My next ortho appt is next Wed.  The thought of continuing to feel this bad is overwhelming.  Do I wait it out, or should I call the ortho doc & tell him it feels like its getting worse, especially the muscle weakness.  Thanks for the replies in advance, God Bless

I had an epidural steroid injection for my lower back pain and it actually got worse that same day. The pain slowly faded away over the next couple of weeks and, as subsequent scans revealed no (additional) injuries, it was just decided best not to try that one again. It sometimes happens people respond differrently than is predicted. It has been noted that the more medication was used throughout a patients life, the greater the chance of an adverse or neutral reaction to new medication introduced into the system.

Personally, I would try to ride out the pain wave. It will subside, but slowly I suppose. Calling on your doctor again might be a good idea, just to have him check whether nothing went wrong during the procedure, but I'd be careful with taking yet more medication.

I would suggest calling the doc who did the injection, especially if something is getting worse and it's almomst been a week. Some soreness after these injections is normal, but I don't think increased muscle weakness is. I've only had them in my lower spine, and they never helped. Check with your doc to make sure nothing went awry.

Keeping - I agree with the above two - call your doctor again and bring up your concerns. In my opinion if the condition is worsening you definitely need to at least call and voice your concern. With any medical procedure there is no a 100% success rate - and always a chance it won't work, or a chance for mistakes and/or reactions. You know your own body better than the doctor, if something doesn't feel right let him/her know.

As far as how they work I have had two different rounds of injections. By two different doctors - neither worked for me. However at the second doctors office there were several patients in there who swore by them, said they had completely changed their lives. Both doctors did tell me that chances were I would feel good relief for a day or two, then the pain would come back, and that on the second or third round the pain would stay away longer. Those were with lumbar nerve blocks and trigger point injections. Of course as I said, neither worked.

have had 2 with no relief, this last one, in Apr actually did make it worse. I've had 11 inj tx in the past with little to no relief with any of them. I'm either very optimistic or very stupid. eyes

Thanks for much for your replies.  I will be calling the doc tomorrow.  I'm just so tired of being in pain & having my live be stagnat.  mad

Called the pain doc & he basically said he didn't know why I was feeling bad, maybe the flu? he said.  Anyway, said if it was really bad go the the ER.  I'm not going to the er, its the pain, numbness, tingling & weakness thats continuing even with the injection.  I guess I just have to wait it out till I see the orthor doc next wed.  UHHHHH.  He also said it can take 2 weeks for the injection to work.
