Hi I'm new to the forum...
Brief history on me. I'm a 27 year old female. Last year I had a bulging disc in my L5 vertebrae caused by a personal trainer who was pushing me a little too hard (I think). And after a few steroid injections that did not work, I had part of the disc shaved off in surgery.
Surgery was successful in May 2007, but in October 2007, back pain returned again. Steroid injections, hypertonic saline solution injections, we burned the nerve endings with four epidural needles, and used a TENS unit. Tried anti-inflammatories, oral steroids Medrol, Decadron), nerve pain meds (Lyrica, Topamax), muscle relaxers (Soma), and narcotics (Norco, Opana ER, Oxycodone)...
The procedures did not help. The Soma helps a little, the Norco helps a little, but I hate narcotics and the mental fog bothers me, so I want to fix the issue - the nerve pain. I start Neurontin tonight and I hope it works.
My new pain management doctor wants me to try a neurostimulator? Does anyone have personal experience about it? I've read the pamplet and watched the DVD and of course it all sound "good", but I don't know how you live with it.
Is acupuncture worth looking into?
I'm willing to look into anything at this point.
I am seeing a psychologist to control the depression. I'm at a point where I can't even sit up for longer than an hour. Standing and walking are excrutiatingly painful. I'm isolating myself from friends, I'm frustrated. My original pain management doctor dropped me because he couldn't help me anymore and he didn't even tell me he was dropping me. He just referred me to a new doctor. How do you "mentally deal with the pain"? I don't understand how to "keep your chin up". That's difficult for me. I know that dealing with this for 9 months is just the beginning, but I could use some newbie help! :) Thanks.
