Following tummy tuck surgery last summer I have been diagnosed with neuropathic pain and am taking Gabapentin which gives me some relief. I recently consulted another plastic surgeon who tells me that the other pain that i have (painful spasm of muscles in my abdomen in response to even low levels of activity) is due to scar damage in the muscle layer and that it will eventually go away, hopefully within another year. When I get a flare up I cannot move more than a few steps for at least a week and then it takes several weeks to build up to being able to feel a bit more normal. But I have never been anything like my former self since my operation and am beginning to contemplate giving up work altogether as I can't do even a short week made up of short days at work.
I am also becoming convinced that my diet affects the way my abdomen feels - particularly that wheat makes things even worse than they need to be. I suffer with terrible bloating and constipation - even the colonic hydrotherapist couldn't "move" things. Maybe this is IBS.
Is there a connection between nerve pain, muscle (not the gut itself) spasm and IBS?
