   Hi everyone!! ive got a few questions that i need someone to help me with!! Im have horrible back pain!! It's hurting in my lower back and right of my butt....hurts a little down my right leg. My back and butt hurt really bad. Anyways...I had an mri done yesterday and i have the report now. I hope someone can help me understand! And also what my Dr. may give me for pain? And whats my options for treatment...                                                                                                       The MRI reads MINIMAL ANNULAR BULGING OF THE L4-L5 DISC WITH NO SIGNIGICANT DISTORTION OF THE THECAL SAC OR NERVE ROOTLETS..                                               

   My back hurts really bad!!! It was to the point that I cried while soaking in a hot bath about 3 days ago. It's horrible!!! I can't lay flat, ive been fallin asleep on my couch. And the right side of my butt hurts really bad too. Everytime i take a step with my right leg it hurts really bad!! My back got messed up when i got pregnant! Im 4"11" tall...with my pregnacies i gained about 75 pounds! I was really small before i had my kids. I also had them only 2 years apart. Im only 23 years old...I shouldn't be having bad back problems at my age..               I also stand for 7 hours a day with my job, im sure that's not helping it!      

PLEASE.....help me!!! i want to know how common this is. Also, what my dr will give me for pain! And is surgery in the question? Ive got a 4 year old and a soon to be 2 year old! I miss picking my babies up! Im also really moody all the time! SO PLEASE HELP.....I NEED ANSWERS! OR COMMENTS ON WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK MIGHT BE WRONG!! THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!!

Hi Proud Mom: First MRI's don't always show what's wrong then there is the quality of the films and of course the Doctor reading the films. My Doctors have read my films totally different then the Radiologist. there is a test called a Mylegram where dye is injected into Your spinal canal and You ly on a table and the table is adjusted up and down to move the dye thruout Your body. This test basically lights up Your spinal canal and nerve damage is easily seen.
The bad side of this test is it hurt's, extremely uncomfortable and I'll never have another. From what the MRI report states is not the pain You are having in ( in my eyes ) Based on Your finding You will be referred to a pain doc, orthopedist or neurosurgeon for shots in Your back. You could try getting a adjustment with a "good " chiropractor to try and avoid pain meds and invasive procedures. Good luck, Tom

I feel for you, I'm very sorry that you have such pain!  Sounds like you MAY have sciatica from the disc problem!  Though Tom is right, my doc has read films differently from the Radiologist before too!  But I would NOT go for a Myleogram, the dye isn't good for you, and they have had recalls on the dye, class action suit going on too!!  Be careful with what you choice to do, we are all here for you, so please keep us informed!

They will probably send you to a ortho, pain management, neuro, etc., but you want to get many opinions too, not just one!  You may still be treatable, sounds like it's fairly new?  If it is, they may be able to give you an epidural of steroids to help shrink the disc?  Don't know, but you do need to see a specialist of some kind, I would think!?  Maybe others have more advice for you, so be patient!!

Sorry that you are going through such pain, I know it's hard, but keep positive, and know that you will get better!!

Don't get too excited too fast. Sounds like you have a good case of sciatica. Try a heating pad and some bengay rub and get off your feet as much as possible for a day. See if you can get someone to help with the kids. If you can get off your feet for a day, you may see some good results. It has always worked for me.

Sounds like you need a workup from a doctor, probably an orthopedic doc or a neurologist. At any rate, ask about a TENS unit. It stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator and it works by applying electrodes to your skin which attach to wires which then attach to a box with controls on it. These controls "dial" out the pain with pulsations to your back and buttock nerves. It helps relieve the pain without using medications. It can also be used in conjunction with medication as well. It's a nifty little device and works well for back pain. Do a search in the box above on TENS units and read other posts about them.

Hope this information has helped. Good luck and welcome to the forum. Don't panic too soon. I know back pain can be debilitating and even a little frightening, but you don't know what you are dealing with yet until you see a doctor.

Lindaloo has given some great advice too!!  Definitely don't panic!!  Doing so will only make the pain worse!  So, yes, it would be great for you to get off of your feet for a couple days or so, it may really help!

I wish you luck and keep up posted, especially after you see the doc!!  I wish you relief too, just the same to everyone here!!

I've had back pain for over 4 years now.  I've just had my 3rd MRI.  I too have low back pain, right buttock pain and pain going down my right leg.  I've used the TENS unit and it does help.  I've been to the chiropractor, had physical therapy, had trigger point injections, take pain meds and nothing helps.  I think the fact that it's gone on so long my brain has been wired to live with it.  I am going to try the epidual.  A friend said her father had for his back pain and the relief lasted for years.  I'd be happy with months.  Ya'all hang in there.  This too shall pass.

 sciatica  hands down . dont know why he is not treating you for that . relax hon , everything will be ok . the more stress you have the more pain.
