Hi everyone, I've been thinking about posting here for a while, but never built up the courage to until now. I have chronic eye pain resulting from a severe injury to my eye a year and a half ago. I've been through the ringer in terms of tests & medications. I now finally have a diagnosis about mechanical origin of the pain, but so far I have been unsuccessful finding a treatment that works. Although acupuncture is starting to provide a few brief breaks in the pain. My pain doc suggested trying a stellate ganglion block. I've given serious thought to it and was planning on trying it if the acupuncture failed. Sometimes the acupuncture makes a differnce, but only for a few hours the following day -- usually in the morning when my pain is generally at its best, it does nothing at night when the pain is the worst.
Has anyone ever had this type of block done before? I've never had a nerve block done before except a failed needleless sphenopallantine block. I have to decide soon because I know that when I go back to college the pain is only going to get much worse from additional eye strain, stress, and lack of sleeping even worse than the little sleep my eye allows me now. And I'm not going to have much time to have a block done.
What are nerve blocks like? Do they generally seem to help? Thanks.
