Oxycontin

I read somewhere that Oxy is being taken off the market. I hate being the
bearer of false news. Does anybody know?

I believe the company that was producing generic Oxycontin was doing it w/o the proper clearance or licenses or whatever. Not exactly sure what the situation was. But essentially the result was that for at least the foreseeable future only brand name Oxycontin (read $$$) will be available for those who take that medication. I think there were a few threads about this several pages back. If you do a search on the site you should be able to find them. An internet search would probably get you the information too.

I don't take Oxy. I used to. Coming off it was so dreadful that I will never
touch it again. I mainly was just curious and wanted to post a potential problem
for others.

Usually then they should be trying an extended release med. like oxycontin and then using percocet for BT pain. Percocet is oxycodone. Or are you on oxycontin?

And yes the generic oxycontin was taken off the market because of a patent suit. The drug company (I think it was Purdue in this case) that develops any medication usually holds a patent protection for a certain number of years. When that expires, then others can make generic forms.

My cousin (the pharmacist) just told me the patent will soon expire on effexor ER, so then there should be generics available on that.

 Hi Scary: I believe the proper break-tru medicine to work with Kadian is Morphine IR - then again what do i know ? got some sleep doc finally caved in after my mess gave me valuim took awhile to kick in but when it did I slept for six hours like a baby. Woke up madder than a hornet  but at least I got some mental rest plus my eyes stopped burning. Tom

Tom, it's funny that you mentioned that valium caused you to wake up angry.My Dr. tried me on them about six years ago to relax my nerves and help me sleep.After about a two week trial, I found that half the time I would wake up and go into an almost rage for very little reason.If nothing happened to anger me within the first hour or so then I would be my usual mellow self for the rest of the day. Needless to say, the Dr. then prescribed me Xanex and they have worked well and without the near gasket blow-outs the next day.Valium is one drug that really scares me for the way it makes me behave.........Take care.............Rod

Does the oxycontin make anyone feel sick??

I have been going to a different pain management ane we were trying oxy's and with the breakthru and also the opna er, Both meds made me sick as can be. the worked ok, but they just werent worth it feeling so dizzy and sick when you stand up. I have been taking diluadid for more than 3 years, it workd pretty good but has a short life. I just went back to dilaudid and am trying to think about methadone.

Anyone ever have tried it??
