Hi everybody, I just joined today I have Sickle Cell Anemia and Asthma. I'm a single mom of 1 and am in pain on a daily basis. I was born with Sickle Cell Anemia and developed Asthma at the age 13. I look forward to getting to know you all, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Welcome to the forum pretty! I do hope that you will hang around awhile and join us in some of our silly things that we try to do so that we can forget our pain for a time. I have found this forum quite useful and filled with great people that will help you get through the day. I am so sorry that you have to join us in chronic pain and do hope you find some relief from your "pain Monster nightmare".

Anyway been dealing with my Pain for the last 8 years and I know that my life will never be the same as it was before this hit me between the eyes. It's terrible that our forum seems to be growing as more and more people are stricken with such a horrible illness that not one doctor can find a cure for. I have FBS....DJD.......CP and Arthritis in both my lower back and my knees. I'm 44 years old and have two wonderful boys (26 and 22). Both are very supportive with my illness and I love them very much for that. I also have a husband of almost 12 years that is very supportive and knows what it is like to go through such horrible pain. He takes me to my appts. listens to the docs tell me what treatments are working....takes very good care of me.....cooks for me......cleans the house and helps me in every way that he can to ease my days of horrible pain.

Anyway enough about me. Tell us more about you? Where do you hail from? Do you have a good supportive family? and all the other pertinent questions that we want to know :-)

Hey prettyeyes! Welcome to the forum. As Scarred said, we are glad to have you but so sorry for the pain that brings you here. Still you are in the right place to find support and distractions from the constant pain as Scarred mentioned.

Hopefully we will get to know you more soon. How old is your little one? Son or daughter?

Thanks for welcoming me! I'm from New York and my daughter is 2 1/2. My family is used to me being in pain because it's been going on all my life. (I'm 24) I was hospitalized many times from the age of 8 months to 16 years old. At 16 I started to have pain on a daily basis and it's been going on ever since. I've learned to deal with my pain so I don't go to the hospital much anymore. Although my family knows I'm in pain they don't always understand. They don't understand how I'm fine one minute and in pain the next or that I can't mop, vaccum, bend etc... because I'll be in even more pain that will last a few days at least. Once in a blue my energy level is real low like this past week but I deal. I take care of my daughter by myself, do the cooking, washing clothes, cleaning, go to appointments and I work. I have full days but I get to make my own schedule so that's a plus.

Here's a little about Sickle Cell Anemia:
What is Sickle Cell?
Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited blood disorder.

Who is Sickle Cell Prevalent in?
African, Caribbean, Central/South America, East Indian, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, Asian and Southeast Asian ancestry.

How does Sickle Cell Disease affect the people that have it?
It can cause moderate to severe anemia and enlargement or damage of spleen.
Dysfunction or acute failure of the liver, kidneys or lungs.
Damage to tissue and bone due to diminished blood flow and loss of oxygen.
Stroke due to infarction of blood vessels.
Chronic and severe pain that can occur on a daily basis and results in frequent hospitalizations.

Hello prettyeyes,
I am new myself, been here a couple of weeks. I will tell you that these people care. Many of them understand, and in my case have given me some wonderful information. I am about to get an operation where a spinal stimulator will be implanted in order to block much of my pain,,I pray.

I too have children, two boys, 4 and 6 and they are the light of my life. My pain has caused much problems in my life. It has taken away my active lifestyle,but worse it has caused a lot of problems in my marriage which I am afraid will affect my boys...that fear is even more depressing than the pain.

Anyway, I am glad you found this place and hope it will be a place you can come for comfort, love and understanding.
