Do u have to wait a full year to find a new pain management doc if you choose to leave your old one?

As some may remember, I went off the oxys and went on sub for chronic pain. I want to see this pain doc and have made an appt. Question is... if he cannot help me and he refuses to put me back on opiates, do i have to wait awhile (1 year) before I can see another pain doc or clinic? This seems cruel is if this rumor is true. The person who told me this is on permanant SSI and uses Medicaid. I have the best insurance money can buy. BTW, I wanted to stick a hot poker through my eye at work 2day because the pain was so bad. I was thrashing at work. No joke! A quick response would be appreciated as I am purely in agony!! I am counting the days until I grow old!

I do not see why you would have to wait at all. In fact, call your insurance and find out. They should be able to let you know.

This person's doc may have said this because they were afraid of them doctor shopping to get more meds. (That is the only explination I have come up with and I used to work for a major insurance company)
