Take my word for it, everybody around you is affected.   In my experience it is crucial that everybody without exception; parents grandparents children – (significant other) who ever is directly involved in your immediate life Have a sit down with your pain doctor and have them ask any question they want, and let the doctor answer, believe you me it carries a lot more weight if the same words came from a doctors mouth, then yours. I remember some of the question; my parents both in the seventies asking the doctor if I’m going to become a drug addict, My son asked if I was going to die, my wife just simply asked; “Please tell me when am I going to get my husband back?”. I will be honest with you; it was not easy for me   to sit back and listen to them,   to see the desperation on their faces. I never realized how much it affected them. You know something; at the end of the day, my pain situation did not change, however; Now when I take my pain killers in front of my parents Im not questioned any more, when I have one of my flair ups and my pain levels are extreme my kids know, this will not kill me( leaving toys on the floor so I could trip over them will) As for my wife, well let us just say; we are optimistic. Understanding the situation with the “right” information is, one of the most important step in the recovery process Remember; as bad as you feel a hug goes along way, they need it.     Keep smiling JJ .-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A little back ground; I’m a 48yrs old male, I have moderate to severe chronic pain everyday of my life for the past10 years, I was diagnosed with sever stinosis i n the neck, severe D.D.D     At 37 I had to have a lamanectomy from C3 to C7 inclusive, do to herniated disc that affected my spinal cord. The doctors have made it very clear that there is real nothing left to try, medically. Presently I can not feel with my hands, no sensation, I have pain from my head to my toes. I have been on every type of pain medication and all stopped working after a while Now I take Lyrica and and medical marijuana    (My advice to the world ,” acceptance, never give up, keep your self occupied . get physiological help, just to put things into prospective. Try to smile )

JJ, you couldn't be more right.  I guess you could say I was somewhat lucky in that my mom is also in CP and goes to the same PM doc as I do so in my immediate family there is more understanding. Of course in the beginning and for awhile, it was hard for my husband to understand.  He knew about my health issues, but I continued to work as long as I could and when I had to quit, that's when it became so stressful.

Who I need to go to the doc with me is my husbands family. They have had some issues in fact telling him to leave me as he could do better.  My husband had to miss his sisters wedding due to me having cancer surgery and she is not speaking to me now and his grandmother left a message for me telling me I wouldn't die in a week and that I should post-pone the surgery and let my husband come. Now to be fair, his grandmother did write me a letter saying she has not walked in my shoes so she can't understand, but they really have no clue.

I'm glad your family can be supportive and I know how much easier that makes it for you.

Welcome JJ to the forum. We are glad you are here. You're post is very positive. You are right, your family needs a hug once in a while, all of our families do. They are so supportive and helpful.

Last night my husband sent me out to dinner with my daughter who is pregnant. He said I deserved a break from cooking. I thought that was so nice of him. And I did need the break too. He worries about me and takes good care of me, for which I am grateful. I try to take good care of him too in spite of my chronic pain, which has gotten so much worse for me in the last eight years.

Anyway JJ, I hope you continue to post on the forum so we can get to know you more. You will find a great group of supportive people here. We certainly welcome you.

Is that only in canada? I have quit for some time now, and of all the time its starting to really get the best of me!!!!!

I wish i could just relax and self medicate as of before. I never robbed,killed,stollen,raped or any other thing that would assosiate with bad living. The only thing I am quilty of is maybee eating an extra pizza and playing an extras round of madden football......

It is illegall here in MA. and at my pain med place so I dont smoke. Too bad we cant get our sh-t together and offer somthing that really can help people with some anxiety and other weak problems with an easy cure!! We have talked about it in pain med but nothing ever came from it...

          Ohh well

Welcome JJ and I think that was a great post and food for thought for many of us that are struggling with people in out lives that just dont get it or think that we are faking.

I would love to take my kids sighsss they were very helpful and understanding in the beginning but now its like ok mom get over it now, or you always feel like crap or are hurting.  they see you do what you have to like go to work and get dinner and then want to know why you cant get up and clean like you used to or run them around like you used to and they just dont get it.  They think that if you can work then you should be able to do what ever else you used to do.

But I am seriouly thinking about taking them all to doc appointment with me so they can here the doc and ask questions as well.

Hi crps,

I don't post on this site often, I am usually on the Arthritis site but like you guys over here also suffer from chronic pain.  I have RA, fibro, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis as well as diabetic neuropathy. 

I live in Canada as well and also take Medicinal Marijuana.  I've got to tell you that I was not sure about it when my Rheumy recommended it but it helps so much with pain and I also suffer from ++++nausea from pain and the Cesamet really helps.  It is really too bad that you do not have access to this as it is a big part of my treatment plan and is very effective.

I went as far as telling my pain mngmt about it,they all agree, but the problem is its still illegal and it will come out in the urine tests. Although they all do agree that it does help in chronic pain and would be beneficial,but the problem is still there.

I also was woundering about extended released dillaudid. I know they didnt approve in ma. but I heard it is leagle in canada? Is that true?

These two things would help dramatically, but I dont see it happening here for some time..........

Well thanks for the input, its always interesting to know how some other people deal with C.P.

crps...some of the states here have medical marijuana as an option. I live in Oregon and we have it, and I know just below me in California they have it as an option as well. On this coast
I think Washington is the only one that hasn't gotten on board with it.

HI, Seattle has medical marijuana. You can get it from The Green Cross. Only Seattle.

I have not worked up the nerve to even try it.

Hi Guys, I guess it's the same old deal, East coast is so lame and  slow to get with it.

I remember the stress and my anxiety just floated away, could actually have the patience to listen to some good tunes and practice jamming. devil

Its just so darn hard to relate with anything when all I can feel is my foot raging at a number 8 or  9!!! All right you west coast dudes, thanks for the info and good luck with your C.P. sad
