Hi Kara487, Thanks for the message.  I've had insomnia for five years now (since I got ill...).  There's been times where I could deal with it; and then I'll go for weeks where I'm only sleeping about every three days or so.  I never knew how insomnia could drive you to the outer limits of sanity; do you feel like this?  I feel like I've pretty much exhausted the sleep meds, so I don't know what more to do.  This is what I've tried: ALL of the hypnotics (Ambien, Lunesta, Sonata, Rozerum, etc) - Horrible experiences, especially w/ Ambien (I'm glad it works for you, though!...).  Without giving too many horribly embarrassing details away, I'd wake up the next day and not have a CLUE what I did the night before.  I'd eat, talk on the phone, among other things - and have NO clue.  Not only do I have young kids at home, I felt very unsafe on these meds.  How did I know I wouldn't wake up and get in the car?  Trazadone - I think I was first treated w/ this for insomnia; would wake up with a drug hang-over. Elavil - Was on this med the longest out of anything.  It worked for awhile, but I did gain weight.  Then it stopped working, despite increasing the dosage, etc. Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin etc. - have used for anxiety, but doesn't make me tired; plus, causes me loss of memory. Restoril - This is the most recent drug I've tried.  Used it for about six weeks.  Really did nothing. I'm sure there's been one or two other things I've tried over the years, but I can't think right now.  Is there anything I haven't tried?  And I've tried all the "alternative-stuff", too; as well as life-style changes, too.  Nothing.  You will still find me exhausted, but wide-awake, many nights.... it's very, very frustrating. If you - or anyone - has any other suggestions, or if you know of anything "new" on the market - I'm all for hearing about it. LPD to you too   Take care, Tina

Momto6, Im sorry nothing works for you. Ambien didnt work for me til I doubled up on the doseage  two pills at night instead of one  and an elavil. I know what you mean about no sleep playing with your mind the longest I stayed up was 12 days with no sleep. I was on a brink  of a nervous breakdown. I was no longer who I use to be . My husband didnt reconize me ,he told me I want my wife back. There is one day a week now where I fall asleep on my own  which was last night I slept  6 hours probably would slept more but husband woke me up with his snoring. The only drug that I heard of is left to try is restoril. My friends mil takes it and swears by it but I havent tried it. I tried everything out there over the counter and it didnt work. After 12 days I was desperate and finally went to the dr. I understand what your going through and if you ever need to talk you can email me at [email protected].
