Ok gal, in my laymans terms, lol. The needle is in place at whatever level is being done. It is then attached to a machine by way of a wire that actually heats the needle although you don't feel the heat, at least I never did. I have heard it called burning the nerve roots ect. I hope I have described this correctly. My dr also gives his patients light sedation, however, you are not knocked out because you must be able to answer his questions when asked. My neck I did fine, no problem had medial branch nerve blocks too. When he did my back and the facet joint, he hit a spot in there with the needle that nearly brought me off the table. I mean I let him know real fast it was not good, even tho he reproduced the pain I was having, good for him but not me by a long shot. He said he hit a real hot spot, I said you hit a very painful spot, lol. But, all in all, I survived it with no battle scars so I did good. The pain was so intense that I became very nauseated afterwards. Of course you have to have a driver that day and you are not allowed to leave the clinic until you start settling down. I am very glad I did the procedures because they did give me relief. Susie
