Hi Everyone,

At my last apt. w/ my P/M Doc last week I asked about a Tens Unit. My older brother has one and swears by it. I looked at them at a local medical supply store and thought I could probably do better online. I did, I bought one that list $499.00 for $95.00 freight included! Has anyone here used one for lower back / neck pain before, did it help?

Pete yes, I have one and its a newer souped up model and let me tell you they have come a long ways in tens units. I think I have quite a collection going,lol. Mine does help me as a matter of fact, with both lower back and neck pain. Hope yours works for you. Susie

I have an intraferential stimulator, which I got from my physical therapist. it's combines a TENS unit with another frequency; he explained one is for pain, one is to increase blood flow. I wish I had known you were looking for one I'd have suggested you talk with a PT. He had representatives from the company who were "giving" them away to a limited number of patients - of course, they bill insurance - but I used it a lot last year. Now just use it prn. I had to buy rechargeable batteries and a 9V battery recharger because mine went through batteries like crazy (I love to walk around the house with it on all evening!).

Anyway, hope it helps you!

Thanks everyone for your advise. Yes, I looked at alot of them and I thought this one was the best deal for what they give you. It comes w/ rechargable batt's & a charger. Who knows if they are true but lots of user statements raved about this model compared to others. I just hope the ding-dang thing helps!

Pete, I have one & I love it. Its not a miracle worker, but it helps when I get really tense. One thing us CP'ers have to face is the fact we may never have a miracle pill or device. However that dosen't mean to give up. What may work for me may not work for you & vice versa. I got my tens unit through a company called RS Medical the number listed is 360-892-0339. The may have to do an EMG on you to see what all you need. I lost my job & insuarance for awhile & they had a program for people like me so I didn't have to pay for the rest of the unit (My insurance had almost paid the whole thing off) and I get about 4 sets of sticky pads each month (about $80) which I now get for free because I have zero insurance or income. Hope this info helps you out some. Good Luck!

I like my empi tens unit too! I use it about 1-2 hours each night. I just got a ton of "stickies" that are all different sizes. I sometimes fall asleep with it on and wake up at 3 or 4 a.m. buzzin! haha. I enjoy anything that is not in a pill form that can offer some relief. Mine was $800...insurance paid $350....and the rest was wiped clean so I would keep it. I can't say enough good things about them.

Awe, sure wish ya could list the name and model number, so I could look into getting
a beeter use at home Tens unit. However, my insurance won't cover one and the one
I have right I got off Amazon, it helps some, just not as good as the one my physical
therapist uses...
Anyways, I wish you a lot of good wishes on yours Pete and hope it gives you some
comfort, lots of soft hugz as well, keep us posted as to how it works for you....

Ask your PT if he/she has any comany reps who are giving home units to patients. That's how I got mine - at no charge. My doctor had to sign off that I needed it, but it was right when they were trying out a new model. But none of them can be as strong as the ones the PT's use in their offices, which cost thousands of dollars and require a license to use.

Thank all of you (my friends) for your kind word and support! I'm hoping my tens will be in my mail box when I get home tonight! Just in time w/ my two sons coming home on leave from the NAVY! I'm sure they will have the "old man" over doing it! I can't wait to see them as both are being deployed in 09' for 8 - 9 months. I tell them that they are safer on those ships than we are here in the good old USA. Ever since the USS Cole was attacked, they really take no chances w/ our ships! God bless them!

I too have a Tens unit and though it does not take away the pain entirely it does help a bit. I do love my Tens and do think it helps quite a bit. Hope you like yours as much as I like mine!

I have one and it doesn't do a thing for me. it never has and i don't even bother anymore what helps me is capsian creme

Sorry about that Skeeter, I guess they don't work on everyone. I tried my brothers and it seemed to numb the pain or I wouldn't have bought one.

let us know how it goes.... we are all rooting for you. i was also going to add the comany i gave you WILL help cover the costs of the system itself & the pads monthly if you need it.... i lost my insurance & they not only zero'd the balance left, send me 8 pads a month for free..... isn't it nice to know not every company is out for the money?

Mine sends me extra pads, batteries, leads and an aloe cream every couple of momths. My insurance changed and the last time I noticed I owed them a % - around $30 I think - and so far I've not received a bill. So far! LOL

LOL! Yes, Susie, I won't be surprised. I know they often wait 90 days - bill the insurance 3 times, before sending one to the patient. That's why we may get a bill from months ago and not even remember what it's for. I think, though, there may have been something in thisi deal that there would be no cost to me, as it was one of a newer model of machines I was "given" through my PT's rep. as a test candidate. I have no intention of paying them, because I didn't sign anything. My PT gave me the machine, and he got the script from my neurosurgeon. I signed nothing from the company saying I was going to pay a dime. But I figure they'll stop sending me supplies!
