As a lot of us have been having a hard time lately, I feel like we are in need of a more fun post.

Since our pain often severely limits what we can do, we CPer's tend to watch a fair amount of TV and movies. So, I was wondering, what are your favorite shows/movies to watch to try to take your mind off of the pain?

I'm not a big fan of movies, myself. I find that they often fail to keep my attention & so I get restless and end up noticing my pain even more. I rather watch episodes of TV series. My favorite TV series is Star Trek (all of them, except the "Original Series" & "Enterprise," "The Next Generation" is my favorite). What can I say, I'm a science nerd. smilewinkgrin I've also started watching the older episodes of "ER", and I watch "House" & used to be a fan of "Grey's Anatomy" (but the last few seasons haven't been so good, so I've stopped watching regularly). I think it is somewhat ironic that I enjoy watching these medical dramas, when I am so fed up with medicine & general & because of all the problems that us CPer's have to face. My Aunt has also been getting me a season of "All Creature's Great and Small" each Christmas for the past couple of years, which is a wonderful series for anyone who loves animals & veterinary medicine (the episodes are based off of the books by James Herriot). Oh, and of course there is "I Love Lucy!" She always makes me smile, even on the worst of days.

What are your favorites? Maybe we can get a collection going so we can all enjoy watching each other's favorites & help take our minds off of our pain, at least for a little while!

I would say the new seies I like to watch on T.V is "Leverage" (TNT at 9 on Tuesdays) and as
I like sci-fi "the Legend of the Seeker" mini-series (WGN on Saturdays)
Favorite Movies: The Santa Clause (1st one as it has zztop song), Batman the Dark Knight,
Ghost Rider, Ironman and of course the first Star Wars Movie that came out in the 1980's..
Of course I do watch House on tv, just not as often........

Hmm...

I'm sure I'll think of more but I've enjoyed Boston Legal, which has just ended (it figures). I like Medium but can never figure out when or if or on what night it's returning! (Is anyone else annoyed at the networks playing musical nights with our favorite shows?? LOL)

I love Dancing with the Stars although sometimes it makes me wish I could dance again. I wasn't a professional dancer, just enjoyed dancing but now am afraid to even sway my hips!

I'll have to think about movies. I don't go out to them anymore because sitting is so uncomfortable, plus they're so expensive. I bought my cousin The Dark Knight for Christmas with selfish motivations! ;-)

I love a great comedy and/or great characters. I will watch The Bird Cage every time it's replayed just for the dinner scene - even now it makes me laugh until I cry!

Oh - and the cable series Saving Grace and Breaking Bad, both of which I stumbled on while channel surfing and again, can't figure out when or if they're returning for new seasons!

Oh - and I am NOT a vampire fan but started watching True Blood on HBO somewhere in the middle of it and got hooked! smhair

What a fun idea for a post! We should definitly do something each day thats an off topic, but a fun one! great idea!
For TV I like: The Tudors, My Name is Earl & The Office.
For Movies I like: Pride & Prejudice (BBC edition), The Duchess, Harry Potter (I'm a geek too!), Mansfield Park & The Other Boyeln Sister.

Char- I like Legend of the Seeker too, it comes on The CW here.... but it just seems to always been re-runs. Are you referring to the one with Richard, the Confessor & the Wizard?

According to the TNT website, Saving Grace is returning on March 9th. Medium is supposed to have new episodes in February. It hasn't been announced yet when Breaking Bad will return with new episodes.

I saw a few episodes of True Blood while on vacation. I love the books and really enjoyed the show. I can't wait until I can Netflix it.

Flat screen and HD are good for us chronic pain people.

Pamela, I love Conan O'Brien too, he cracks me up. I love the Nascar drivin', gun-totin' Jesus. When he morphs the celebrites "if they had babies" and the string dance! He is so funny!

I like his dance when he first comes out. I usually run it back and watch
him a couple of times. When you look at Conan real hard he looks like
a high-paid male model. (Hope that didn't wreck it for you.) However,that
big wild wave on the top of his head would keep him from fame and fortune
in Gentelman's Quarterly (or whatever)

He played himself on 30 Rock and also The Office. I was beyond thrilled. yeah

I agree, the Santa Claus 1 is definitely the best of the bunch! I didn't get around to watching any Christmas movies this year, but that is one that I often watch. The original Star Wars movies are great too. I've only seen one of the "new" ones, but it didn't compare! What is the Legend of the Seeker about? It sounds interesting...

The Birdcage! That movie is hilarious! I've probably seen it 10 times. I didn't have cable/satellite tv until a few years ago, so I only got the local news channel. Watching cable used to be something really special whenever I stayed at a hotel & I swear, The Birdcage was on on some channel every time I went away! And I agree, I hate it whenever the channels move the shows around! And you're not the only one who doesn't go to the movies! I saw Wall-E this year (soooo cute!), but other than that, I can't remember the last time I went to the movies. As you said, it is sooooo expensive! It's almost cheaper to buy the movie when it comes out on dvd!

Harry Potter! I completely forgot about those movies! I absolutely love them! Of course the books are so much better, but the movies are great too. I started reading the HP books before they were popular & I always try convince people to read them if they haven't before. I think they are really enjoyable books, whether or not you are into sci-fi/fantasy.

I've only seen one episode of the Office, but I've heard it is hilarious! I'll have to try to catch some episodes this spring. Thirty Rock is also supposed to be really good. I should watch it sometime - never seen it before, but I really enjoy Tina Fey (not to get political, but her SNL skits were a hoot). I also wanted to see Baby Mama, but never got around to it. Oprah, of course is great! I don't see it too often because it is usually shown when I am in class & I can't record things at school sad My roomates used to watch her all the time. I like when she has Dr. Oz on the show the best! I also like the late night shows. The Jay Leno Show was my favorite (up until when he had celebs on, then I could care less & turned it off). His Monday night Headlines are the best! I never discovered late night TV until my CP began. I have never been a good sleeper, but now-a-days I'm up almost the entire night!

Well, I'm off to go watch an episode of ER while snuggling with a purring kitty who I snagged from downstairs to sleep on my bed turn (there's nothing like a loud purr to comfort you & help take some pain away) before I make an attempt to sleep.

Oh, I also have to add, that one of my favorite series of all time is Horatio Hornblower! There are maybe 8 little "movies" based on the first 2 or 3 books of the 13 book Hornblower series by C.S. Forester. I believe that they were shown on A&E several years ago. They are about the adventures of a man, Horatio Hornblower, in the British Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars. The acting is amazing & the stories are just wonderful. To tell you the truth, I wasn't sure I'd like them at first, but my father convinced me to watch one with him & I got hooked! After I watched the movies I proceeded to read all 13 books (before my eye injury, of course) & they are now one of my favorite book series. I can't believe I forgot to write this before.

Pamela - it took me a couple of minutes to get what you wrote, then I just cracked up remembering the scene! tongue tongue tongue
I heard on some trivia show most of the dinner scene was ad libbed and they had to stop filming for an entire day because Robin Williams had Diane Weist laughing so hard her eyes were puffy! shocked

I also watch the Daily Show and the Colbert Report a lot. I flip around late night to see who's making me laugh the most! Wonder just how many of us have our nights and days screwed up? smhair

I agree....we do need some fun in our lives. For a while I posted a 'Daily Check-In' for that purpose ...we do it on the fibro forum each day. Maybe that name isn't a very good one for over here...but if anyone would like a daily or weekly topic, just for fun, please feel free to speak up. I or others can get things rolling and we'll see that we have something a bit fun now and then. We more than deserve it!

I don't watch tv to me I am wasting time doing that, (left over from my working days) and its so hard for me to sit still long enough to watch a movie. My husband retired a few years ago and all he does is watch movies from the time he gets up till he goes to bed. Plus he is hard of hearing and having th sound up just plain ole gets on my nerves. I threaten tp blow his tv up,lol. Susie

Maybe we could just keep this one going a bit, and let it spin off into threads about what we watched during the week? It seems like an easy thing to let happen.

Dagger - is True Blood a series of books? Before this I wouldn't have been caught dead (teehee) asking about a vampire book or movie, but that one is so intriguing. Maybe it's because it's got such a mix with humans and it's not just a blood bath. However since I've not watched many vampire movies in the past, I've got nothing to compare it to. I think I watched parts of Interview with the Vampire (was that the one with Brad Pitt and I think, Tom Cruise?) but could never get into it enough to watch it all the way through. Go figure.

Oh and BTW PA, if you like Vampire shows and you have not seen the series Moonlight......it may be right up your ally. Take a peek at it and see what you think. The series starts on Scifi January 23 check your listings for time. :-)

True Blood is based on a series of books by Charlaine Harris known as The Southern Vampire series. The first one is "Dead Until Dark". I think there are about 8 books in the series now. They are easy, fun reads.

Yep read all the Charlaine Harris vampire books, plus one of her other series,
and saw some of the true blood too. I had wondered where "moonlight" had gone,
I thought that was a hit tv series for CBS, I wonder why they'd dump it.
"moonlight" would be kinda a milder of what "true blood" shows guess that's why it's
on HBO .

Honestly, I can't beiieve I'm asking about vampire stuff! shocked It's completely out of character for me, but it's kinda fun. Maybe that's what attracts people. I always thought it was the blood and gore that attracted folks. Go figure. rolleyes

So was Moonlight the series with Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepherd, or am I thinking of something else? I guess it's obvious I never watched either one! smilewinkgrin

No PA Moonlight is the show with Alex O'Loughlin and Sophia Myles along with Shannyn Sossamon and Jason Dohring. It's about a Vampire that doesn't want to be a vampire and decides that he is going to help others instead. So he uses his Private Detective skills to help others. But there are many twists along the way including a vindictive vampire ex-wife that he has tried to kill and his smooth talking best friend who is also a Vamp that is real rich and he's like real crazy in an odd way. The Vampires have blended in with society and nobody knows that they are vamps. They live by rules that include no eating people and if they turn someone they have to take that person under their care and teach them the vampire code.

Anyway its very good. Not to mention that Alex is one hot Vamp!! Much better then when Angel was on.

I would add something about vampires if I could, but I don't have any experience or expertise about vampires, although I do know that they are afraid of garlic! heehee turn
