Hi Folks,
this will be the dumbest question that has ever been ask on this forum! If any one reading this has kept up with my low back condition, I would like to ask about most likely something that doesn't exist! As you all know, I can't do much, and one think that I would like to be able to do is stand for a while with out wanting to scream!! What I wonder is there a topical or a small injectable (like a dieabet using) that I could use on my back like one day a month that would numb me up, so that I could stand and injoy life! Dentist use novacane, they make it in a jell, because I have seen it, would that not be able to numb my back so the pain would be gone for a while or would it numb me so I couldn't stand a tall??



I am open for any help advice anything!!

Hi Ace,

Yes there is an injectable medication but I doubt it's for 'home use'. When I get very bad area in my shoulders or shoulder blades my doc injects with something called Marcaine. It's a time release numbing agent and works for about 5-7 days. Helps me but you would have to talk to your doc about it.

Oh wow Ace, I've not heard of a small injectable for pain (other than the epi's the doctor does)...However there are tons of topical creams
that can be applied, some work better than others as we are all different, there is an Australian lotion (ALCIS) that I use
at night and works good when using moist heating pad with it. There are Lidocaine patches and other type
patches you can ask your doctor about, however problem I had with the lidocaine patch was when it gets 75 f + outside
the lidocaine got into my system faster and made me so sick, I had to stop using it.
You'd need to ask your Doctor about this., and it's in no way a dumb question.
Some lotions have menthol as the active ingredient which for me causes my asthma to flair as I'm hyper sensitive to menthol based products.
Sure hope this makes sense and helps...
Good luck on your quest and when you find out let me know(about a portable injectable, other than surgery to have a pain pump)

I think you will have to ask your DR. but my guess is that it would not be very safe because if it is numb you could hurt yourself worse and not know it tell the meds ware off.

Hey Ace, I know you are in some bad way with your pain. I cannot remember if you are seeing a pain mgt dr or not. Have you ever had trigger point injections? I use to get them about every 2 weeks. My dr would start at the base of my neck & go all the way to my butt. I looked like a pin cushion when he was finished with me. After all the needling, I went on to work. In fact, thats how I was able to continue to work. My neurologist use to give me a shot of Decadron every 6 weeks which is a steroid. Oh, this did wonders for my pain, but I was on this regime, way, way too long. Just some things to throw out. Susie

I seem to have the same type of lower back pain as you only not near as bad at the present time and treatment I am now on. A few years ago when the pain was much worse, my Doc gave me a couple sample boxes of Lidocaine patches to try. They did NOTHING for my pain, zip, zilch, zippo! As you know, I'm no doctor but I wouldn't waiste my $$$ on those! I also had every kind of steroid shot along with versets? I think thats what they call it and some others to boot. Rarely did I get any releif from any of them. I still don't know why I kept going back, I guess I was desperate at the time back in my 40's. I beleive that had I continued on that rout I'd had been alot worse by now and would have opted for all the surgeries they wanted to do on me. God only knows where I'd be now. I started with exercises lying on mmy back in bed and worked my way up from there and I was on crutches at the time. Now I am able to work over 50 hrs every week every week! So there is still hope, nevre give up!
