Quitting My Doctor

I quit my new internist. He diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia and said I could
get my pain relief with an OTC medicine. While at the first appointment
with him I mentioned that I need a colonoscopy. He made the appointment.

The colonoscopy people called me and told me when to come for my appointment.
I canceled my appointment. Didn't want it afterall.

Anyway, the internist called me tonight AT HOME and seemed very angry
that I didn't
keep the appointment. I told him I had changed my mind.

He acted like I had somehow hurt his practice by not going to this appointment
for a colonoscopy.

Oh, I don't know. This is kind of long and it doesn't seem serious BUT the
internist knows my pain doctor. (I think)

It's either a kind of Paranoia or an Intuition that he could make problems for
me.

Any ideas?

Geezee, seems like more and more Doctors are more concerned with
their practices than the over all human being.. Sure do hate
that it's come down to that. Whatever happened to HUMANITY...
Hope when you find a new Doctor, he'll treat you better...Good

Lots and lots of soft hugz, you know we're all concerned about you, so
keep us posted...
Maybe try finding a few doctors and then hang up their pictures and
get some darts and a blind fold...heck might work eh.. Just a jokin...

Good for you Pam. You shouldn't have to put up with a doc who doesn't treat you well. There are plenty of docs out there & plenty of docs who are willing to work with you & help you (although unfortunately it's a matter of finding them & from what I've heard it seems like finding a doc who understands & believes in fibro can be tough). I hope you find a new (& good) doc quickly.

I wouldn't worry too much about the relationship between your internist & PM. Your PM has known & been treating you for years & he has a much better idea of what is going on with you & your pain than your internist ever could have gotten from a couple of visits. And assuming your PM treats fibro too & he hasn't been treating you for it already, he could easily take over the management of your pain from that as well.

By the way, how are your shoulders doing?

I appreciate your responses. After I wrote that I felt like I sounded nuts. I'm not
nuts but some of the doctors sure are.

I get along really well with my pain management doctor. Today I sang him two
verses of Spiderman. He came into the treatment room singing as usual so
it wasn't a crazy thing to do.

Spiderman, Spiderman does whatever a spider can.
Spins a web, any size. Catches PAIN just like flies.
Look out! Here comes the Spiderman.

I have a memory for lyrics. I can't remember my phone number but songs ...
Yep, I remember those.

Hey Pamela,

 

Don't you hate that we (CPers) have to worry so much about other Dr.'s talking to our Pain Dr.'s?  But I think the Pain Docs know the score...they know that they are regarded as the "Black sheep" of Dr.'s...but they still do what they do to help us...they know that sometimes people treat us badly and think that we are making things up to get drugs...But they know us and treat us like Human Beings anyway...

 

Don't worry about if that Dr. will talk to your other Dr.  I doubt he really cares enough to take the time...

 

Oh, and good for you!!! yeah   Finally someone that has the courage to stand up to one of those Dr.'s and tell them "No thank you".....

What a marvelous thing to say about our Pain Doctors. Bless you one hundred times
over.

I've had two pain doctors in my "career" Both have been caring and kind. You can
just tell when you walk in to the waiting room that things are going to be ok.
All day long those doctors put up with people who lack humor and complain and
howl to the skies.

My doctor loves these people. He does what he can and I believe he really stretches
it. I trust him completely.

I am ok today. And Me, how are you? PS My doc says Methadone is the very
best for pain. He'd change me if I wanted to try something else. I don't. Do you? :-)

pam, i am glad you are done with your dr, but a colonoscopy is a life saver, they aren't bad at all. i had one last year. my friend is stage 4 colon cancer at 30, so please don't put it off. i have lost many friends to cancer at young ages.... please please get your colonoscopy. besides, you can get a nap out of it! not trying to preach at you, please don't take this the wrong way- but if you need one you should do it. its not scary at all, if anything afterwards all you do is poot..... lol. but there is a room full of pooters, so you aren't going to be alone! ****. sorry, had to say it! ((hugs)) we gotta get you better!

I will have a colonoscopy as soon as I get situated with an internist who is a good
match for me. I don't ask much of them because my health is good. All they
have to do is BE THERE to hand out the antibiotics or the flu shot. You know?
I do want a doctor who has a sense of my psychology - one who laughs a bit and
maybe one who could cry.
I'm sooooo uncomfortable with stuffed shirt cold fish. I will start my search for a
warm water fish with a heart on its sleeve.

Hey Pam, thought you quit seeing this guy after the first visit. Gosh you mean you went back for a second dose of him,lol? The scope is no big deal because you sleep thru it. The prep is the booger. I would recomm finding a good gastroenterologist for the scope.

Wanted to tell you down here in my neck of the woods, they are advertising on tv Lyrica for fibro. This the first time I have seen the commercial.....Susie
