Help!! C5 C6 Discectomy and Fusion Now Severe Pain!

Daylont I am not surprised by what the nurse said and I really don't think you are either. However, with being diabetic thats even more reason someone should have been monitoring that neck much closer. I know hindsight is 20-20. Please do as White Beard has suggested keep after this dr you are trying to contact. Do not let anyone drop the ball this time around. Many people on here including me will tell you most of the time we really have to advocate for ourselves in order to get proper care, its not just limited to the military.

Please go easy on yourself until some sort of plan is in motion towards getting you fixed. No lifting of any kind, avoid bending or stooping, in other words baby yourself. Don't need any further damage done to your neck. Take care and please let us hear from you. Susie

Well Everyone I did finally get a message from my doctor saying he is putting a consult in and they will call me on monday to let me know allof the details. he said he hopes I have a good weekend and will be talking to me on monday.. I was thinking while listening to it, WELL HOW BOUT SOMETHING PHONED IN FOR PAIN!! Not a mention of it, so I figure I am on my own once again to weather this storm. I will just try and be careful all weekend. I will be taking all of your advice, No lifting, no tugging,pulling ect.. Just rest rest rest. Heat and relaxation. I really do appreciate everyone on here. At least I know I am not alone!! Sometimes it feels like  I am telling everyone I HURT but it falls on deaf ears and I am just complaining. I will keep you all posted on my progress. Thank-you for listening.

No you are not complaining my friend. You are making a simple statement, you are in pain and we know you have every reason in thw world to be in pain. Jeesz, give yourself a break here now,lol. I would have asked the idiot to at least call me in something at least to get thru the weekend. I would have said maybe if you will do that I can rest a little better and have a good weekend. GGRRRR where some of these drs come from is beyond me. Yes, pain can make you feel all alone for sure gosh just look at the size of this group, if we didn't have this forum I am not sure where many of us would be as this is our only outlet.

Hope the moist heat helps you some. Keep us posted. Susie

I just got the time to read through all your posts and the others. Geeze I'm sorry whats going on w/ you! Suport out troops> NOT! They should be there for you! As you have seen, there are a lot of compasionet people here. We will give you support, besides prayers & advise, unfortunately thats all we can do. It takes one to know one or something like that. We know our own here and can feel your pain. My prayers are with you. Thank you for your service and God speed. You will get help!

Thank-You Pete, The Stennis is out of Bremerton Washington now. That is where I am living. My husband is on the Abraham Lincoln out of Everett. a year and half from retirement and really looking forward to it. Our son is in the Navy too, he is an instructor at a Sonar tech school in San Diego. I appreciate all of you kind words and your sacrafices with your sons too. I am learning that this is the place to be for support. I have had a very positive outlook since finding everyone here. I also have recieved some fantastic advice. The medical in the military has  little to be desired. Although I have to admit there are a few really good docs too. They are not all insensitive. It just so happens that the doc I have right now is very young and just returned home from a deployment. I am hoping that we develope a good relationship and he learns to trust me, I KNOW MY BODY BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE, and I am not one of these drug seeking moorans!! Only time will tell. Once again, thank you for listening and being supportive. YOU GO PROUD PAPA!!  AND THANK YOU FOR ALLYOUR BOYS DO FOR US HERE AT HOME!

Well daylont if it makes you feel any better when I messed my knee up when in Germany the AF and Army Docs really screwed things up and it wasn't till I came back and got stationed in California, and finally went to Oak-knoll Naval hospital, did I finally get it fixed right. Back when I was in the Air Force, the Navy was known to have the best Doctors and medical facilities of all the branches of the service! But the thing that is bad for an active duty service member is you can't sue a military doctor for malpractice, no matter how bad they mess you up!! Something called the Farris Act protects them.
Do be careful, a soft cervical collar can be gotten at most drug stores, and they are cheap, usually come in small, med. or large. It might not be a bad idea to wear one when standing up or walking, to help stablize your neck. Heck your base clinic should be able to give you one! Please keep us posted!

I am in considerable pain too, Daylont.

I was glad to hear from the posts that flexion and extension are not good for me.

My neck and shoulders are really tight. REALLY. I am in so much pain. And I know
you are too. My pain medicine doesn't do much of anything that I'm aware of.

Mine feels like c5-c6 came unfused or something. I haven't had surgery. However,
I'm trying to prepare for it.

I wish I had a soft collar. I wore a couple out and then my general practioner
told me not to wear it because my neck muscles might not grow strong.

This is a great place. Everybody here is like a pretend doctor. You put all
the advice together - gather it up and it becomes the voice of genius. There
is no place where you can get this kind of information.
