No doubt there will be one or more who will check in before too long who is familiar with Chrohn's and will give their advice or at least experience.

Welcome to the CP forum, I am sorry you have to here but so glad you decided to hop over. I too have crohns so I know where you are coming from. I am in with a pain specialist and have been for quite some time. One thing I will caution you on is never ask a dr for a specific pain medication. It wil send a red flag up and make you look like a drug seeker. We have a hard enough time getting drs to believe us and give medication. I have a Medtronic Pain pump so my situation will be somewhat different. My former pain clinic dr when I went to him initially he did a physical exam and went over everything. He wanted to know what medication I was and if it was covering the pain, along with asking what I had been on previously for pain. Yoy should always make it clear to the dr if your medication is not working. He did change my medication because what I was on was not helping. Depending on the kind of pain you have many pain drs are do different kinds of injections and procedures to try and lessen the pain. You may want to make a pain journal of a sort for him to see so he can perhaps get an  idea of your peak times when the pain is at its worst. Is you pain constant and where is the pain located? Is there anything in particular that makes the pain worse. I have been on just every medication there is and none of it ever interferred with my crohns. One thing I will tell you, is taking strong medication you must eat something before taking the meds otherwise you can end up sick at your stomach.

wish it was under better circumstances, but that being said "Hello"
Well, with any Doctor I sure hope you get a good PM Doctor!
Make a list of all the medications your on, I usually have my hubby type mine.
Make a list of questions you have, You might have to sign a PainManagement Contract
which states you'll only go to one pharmacy for all your medicines, so make sure you have
a good pharmacy and take the address and phone number of that pharmacy with you to
the first appointment, also, in the contract it might state that you can only see this doctor for any pain related
stuff, like if you have a toothache you'll need to see your PM doctor for the medicine and you'll need to know what
hospital's he/she practices at in case you have an emergency, as you'll only be allowed to see him/her...

Welcome Bible: seen you a lot on the Crohn's forum...There are some other crohnies on here as well...alas Crohn's can be literally a pain in the bum.
I go to a PM as well. Best thing I ever did. One thing...with Crohn's you MUST stay away from any and all NSAIDs. That is why going to a PM who can develop other treatments is so good. Not to mention take into account the digestive issues that may be at hand (does the med exit the body to early, will the med cause further damage,is the med effective against abdominal pain as certain meds are not as good ) I am on the patch for just such these issues. Not only does it bypass my GI (cause in my system they can go too fast or come right back up; to really be effective.) This has helped me get some life back if only for a few hours each day.
