Hip and R Leg Pain gets worse!

Hello All, I am new here. I use to be on the Hepititus forum because my husband has Liver disease and is on the Liver transplant list.

I need some help. I have ddd, djd and a buldging disk in the L-4 and L-5. I can deal with this from time to time but when this crap hits me it's awefull! It is in my R upper leg (hip) It sting, burns,

stabs and gets numb! It is from my hip to my knee. The skin is very sensitive to the touch. If anyone touches it I just about jumb it gets that bad! I try to tough it out. The more I walk and stand the worse it gets. I am a caregiver of 25 years and have to lift a 90 year old Lady and she is dead weight!

Now the other stuff that hits me. The pain and stiffness in my body like my hands, feet and legs. I will get so stiff I can hardly walk. What in the world is this? I am puzzled and can't figure it out! Is it fibro or what? I don't have health Inc. I do go to my

Dr. only when it gets so bad I can't stand it any longer!

She gives me pain meds and muscle relaxers. I need to stop taking these epecially now since I am taking too much. Before all I needed was 1-2 a day now it's like 3-4...I don't wanna destroy my liver or be a drug addict! I lay on a heating bad,

I use an ice pack! Just don't know what to do! I am young.

I am 53 years young. I want to be active again! I hate all of this. My Right knee is playing out on me. I don't understand this. I wonder if its the long use of sweet-n-low I have been using since the 70's?

At times I will be ok, then all of the sudden this junk hits me!

And it gets worse!! The stabbing, pinching, stinging pain in my uppper thigh and hip wakes me up at night! Is this the sciatic

nerve from the L4 and L5?

I really hate this. My 2 Sister's have this. The oldest Sister

has MS. The youngest sister has Fibro and other things.

I was in several accidents many years ago, does that catch up with you? If anyone can help I would greatly appreicate it.

I have come here several times but chickened out..Welll I am desperate now.

Welcome, and I'm glad you finally decided to post for yourself! I'm sorry to learn of all your pain, and it does sound like you've got more than one thing going on.

Can old injuries catch up with us as we age? You bet! Remember we're not doctors here, but I've had a L4-S1 fusion and still have sciatic pain and numb feet, so what you're describing in your hip sounds like something to do with nerve compression. The more systemic pains could be a lot of things. You say you have no health insurance; are you eligible for Medicaid? It does sound like you need medical attention - some testing probably by specialists to get an accurate diagnosis, as well as treatment.

The lifting for your job is probably making it worse. I know you're 53, and those of us in our fifties (I'm 59) still like to think we're young, but our bodies are aging, and DDD is normal, and can often be without symptoms, but that's not the case with you.

It is possible some of your symptoms are arthritis, and you could try adjusting your diet. But it also could be something like RA or fibro, but that requires a doctor to diagnose properly. What has your doctor suggested?

I hope some others will chime in with thoughts, but health insurance is an issue for many of us. I would really see if you can qualify for anything in your state.

Thank You for your reply I so appreciate it! I was in a head on collision in 1980, lost a kidney and spleen and almost lost my life and my 3 week old baby. But I felt fine after a few weeks and never had trouble until I worked at an auto plant for 2 years on a heavey duty line and that is when the main trouble began in 1995. Now it just gets worse!
I was also in a motorcyle wrect and broke my leg, fell off of a race horse when I was 16, felll on my R hip while on ice. So I guess this is what is catching up with me! I use to be so active! Loved to walk and all. Now when I walk and push my patient in her wheel chair my hip drives me absolutely bunkers!! It's like now Lord you know I have to have this job and my husband is sick, what am I going to do? I just keep plugging along and but finding myself eating more and more pain pills just to cope! I do know this is not good! I do not qualify for Medicaid because we are right on the boarder line..
My sweet female Dr. has suggested I loose weight which I know I have to do, go to a pool and get some exercise which I would love to do.
I will work on this very soon. I was working so much like 60, 70 and even some 80 hour weeks, but this has come to a halt since Oct. Now I am working 40 hours a week and I am so thankful I can do that, but barely. My Sis n love helps me with most of the lifting and attending to this 90 year old Lady.

I just don't understand this at all! I will call a free clinic and see if they can help me.
I even have lumps on the top of my thighs. My thighs espeically are so painful even to the tiny bit of touch! The Right thigh is so hot. Now the othe parts of the body, my hands and fingers get painful and even swell from time to time!
Well enough venting here! Thanks for listing!

ps...My dr. has done very little test as she I am private pay. She does know that I have a buldging disk and she thinks the right hip pain is bursitus..So she always keeps me in mild pain pills and muscle relaxers. The take the edge off but not for long now.

Wow! You sure have been through the ringer! Lost a kidney and your spleen! And now everything else.

If you're right on the border re: insurance, what can you do to get yourself to qualify? Every state is different, I know, but maybe if working a few less hours/week would qualify you it would be worth it. Some states also have catastrophic insurance pools, or other low cost alternatives. See what the free clinic can do in the meantime. Try to reduce your stress as much as possible. Do you use ice or heat to ease some of the pain? Warm baths. Any some relaxing music so your muscles relax a bit. And avoiding as much lifitng as possible.

I wish I could help more. Maybe someone else will have suggestions to add. But we're here for support!

Their are not many people who know really know about my health situation...I never let on! I always try to grin and bare it, well of course with drugs. And that is tha Bad part!!

So sorry for all your troubles & pain. I too was really active, played all sports & was a gymnast & diver but have had SPMS for last 13 years so no more of that. Oh well, a great memory. I too had that pain on the surface of the skin its so awful. When I tried to sleep I could not bear anything to touch me so had to lie there starkers & shivering. I have a baclofen pump now so I am painfree for the first time in 13 years & its bliss.

What I wanted to say was that when I was in hospital having pump implanted a 30 yr old came in with 10/10 pain on her left side from head to toes. At first they thought it was MS but finally decided it was Pain Syndrome triggered by a fall. Meds did not really touch the pain so they prescribed EXERCISE?!

First she dragged herself up & down the corridors, then she did lots of physio. It took a while but now she is painfree! Try the swimming. I know its hard but I think it could make a big difference. Certainly my pain increased the worse the spasticity became. The less I moved the tighter everything became, the worse the pain. It was a viscious circle.

Thanks Guys! I am hoping the shot will help soon. Several hours after the shot I felt a recreation of the pain but it was so much worse! I dealt with it as usual..I had to take a lite pain pill.

I am gonna get into a hot shower....I am still gonna grin and bare the swimming thang :)! Well not bare but you know what I mean.
