I am new to the forum.  I have been dealing with this pain since 1993.  It started out as a result of a messed up foot surgery on my right foot and about a week later the pain spread to my left foot.  The doctors couldn't make up their minds - they said RSD, Causalga (?) and sympathetic neuropathy.  I have a medtronic spinal cord stimulator implant, two 100 Duragesic narcotic patches and have Vicodin ES for breakthrough pain. I have been to 3 pain centers (which are all run by anestheologists - who wnt to mask the pain and not eliminate it) I have tried acupuncture - it worked the first time and never worked again.  I  was diagnosed with diabetes in 1996 and then they called it diabetic neuropathy.  I have said it would  be the greatest thing in the world if I could have one day free of pain - but I think that would be a mistake - trying to get used to the pain again would cause me to lose my mind.  Oh, I have to ad that I lost my husband of 43 years in July of 2005 and my right leg in Nov 2005.

Anybody have any good suggestions?  Do you know of a GOOD pain center in the Detroit area?  I have been to U of M, St John, Mt. Clemens General and a private one in Port Huron.

I am so sorry you are continuing to have to deal with the pain of neuropathy. I have neuropathy in both feet and legs. Mine is from my Crohn's disease. Fortunately Neurontin and Tramadol together control my burning, tingling and numbness. I am not from your area so can't offer any suggestions regarding a pain center in your area.

Also, I am so sorry about the loss of your husband. My husband died one day before our 30th wedding anniversary while we were vacationing in Hawaii. That was 2 years and 10 months ago. The pain of losing him has not gone away only lessened in ots intensity.

I've been married 38 years. What a blow for you? How did you learn to cope?

I've been with my man since I was 12. Could I go on? Of course.

I agree, one day pain free would be a terrible thing for us. At this moment,
I'm at #9 pain. It's been 8-9 all this live long day.

I don't think i take good medicine. 120 mg. of Methadone a day. With
weak Morphine Sulfate for in between.

Maybe I've grown immune from Opiods.

Oh, I hated accupuncture. Felt like that little needle made hamburger
of my tissue. I got a needle in the very top of my head. For what? I
dunno. To me, accupuncture is just grisley. EEEEEkkkk.

What about a pain pump, Ms Kitty? I think I'll try for that.

Hi Ms. Kitty welcome to HW. I too have neuropathy problems in my feet and hands, so I understand that pain. I am sorry to hear of all the problems you are dealing with and can't seem to get any real help with your issues. I live in Tx so I know nothing about any drs in your area at all. I am sorry I cannot be of any help to you there.

Perhas one of the others on the forum will be along and maybe can help you out in the dr area.You have sure had alot on your plate the last few years, I do hope something good pops up for you, you deserve it.. Hugs, Susie

Hi, Miss Kitty,
Welcome to the CP forum. I'm so sorry to learn of all you've been through, and all you are dealing with. I have neuropathic symptoms in both feet, but caused by spinal nerve compression. I take neurontin along with percocet. Some people here have success with lyrics and/or cymbalta. Have you ever tried either of those?

I have alreay read a few of your responses to others and am so glad you decided to join us. I'm not from the Detroit area, but hopefully someone else is.

Straydog - the something good is named Bob. He is my soul mate. He, too, has a lotof medical issues. He is blind in ine eye and losing his sight in the other. He says he feels badly that he can't take care of me. I tell heim he does the most important thing, he loves me. We found each other on EHarmony in Feb 2007. I will happily take care of him for the rest of my life.

I take 1200 mg of neurontin 4 times a day - that is highest allowed. I also take Cymbalta 90 mg a day with Vicodin ES and Duragesic patches.

I was just beginning to feel neuropathy in the left foot/leg when I had surgery in my right to clear up an infection. I was diagnosed diabetic about 10 years ago, with the neuropathic pain initially called in 2007.

Since the surgery I have been at 10+ on the pain scale if I don't take meds. So mine is also masked; not to say they didn't try to find a fix. But 2 separate neurologists both quickly declared, after testing, that 3 of the 4 major nerves serving both feet are goners.

I run at 3 on good days, but generally about 5 on average on most days.

My pain meds are
Lyrica 150mg x3/day
Cymbalta 60mg x2/day
Methadone 10mg x5/day
Morphine 30 mg x4-6/day

What were the kickers for me were the combination of the first 2 and the last 2. Cymbalta enhances the Lyrica and Morphine enhances the Methadone. The 1st is stated by my doctor, the second is supposition on my part. But that is what my body's reaction to them is telling me.

I take other stuff as well, but the main 4 for neuropathy are the above.

Sorry, I live in Utah (And boy am I sorry).

My issues face off with each other.

Enough pain meds, and my brain doesn't work. Fewer pain meds and the pain quickly comes through and it also clogs my brain from being productive; I was a programmer of sorts and that is VERY difficult to be productive with in a high pain environment.

I digress. You might mention some of the above 4 to see if they might be of help to you.
