Hi Everyone,

I'm new posting here, but I have been reading posts here each day for about five months. I have excruciating chronic pain from a car accident--nerve damage, disc bulges, etc., etc., etc... I've had back issues for several years now. So, I just wanted to say "hi" to everyone. I've read many of your stories and there are many very strong people here.

 Welcome to this forum, I am glad you decided to start a thread and introduce yourself, now instead of just reading our post, why don't you consider this an invitation to actively participate with us in the many discussions at this forum. As they say the more the merrier! So tell us as much about yourself as you feel comfortable sharing, what type of pain do you have and how are you being treated? Since you have been reading this forum for quite some time, you should know quite a bit about us, so now let us know a little more about you. I do hope that we will start seeing you regularly post here!

What a nice warm welcome, White Beard. Let me join him Flower, by saying welcome too and I am glad you decided to post. An accident changes your life significantly sometimes and chronic pain can cause depression. I know. I suffer from fibromyalgia and it has gotten so bad over the last eight years. I struggle with it every day.

But, enough about me, I want to learn about you. What is your family situation and your support system like?? It's so important to have a good support system. A lot of us consider this forum to be counted among our most important support systems. Hope you will come to feel that way too.

Keep posting. We want to get to know you!!

I want to add my welcome to White Beard and Lindaloo, and I know others will be along. Since you've been reading for several months, you know how a lot of this works.

I'm also glad you decided to jump in and post. We are strong, I believe, because we are holding eachother's hands in this virtual world. I don't know how I would be surviving without this group. So I'm glad you're going to be part of us more visibly now!

Wow! Thank you so much for all of the warm welcomes. I get massage (reallly light) therapy three times a week and I do some light exercises at P.T. I have a pain management doctor and he is a really understanding and sympathetic doctor, but I know that there are some tough ones out there, lol. I have tried acupuncture, steroid injections, aqua therapy, tens unit, ultrasound, etc.

I do have a very wonderful husband and family, but I don't have any children and I don't really know if I'll ever have them. I really want one though and I pray every single day that one day I will be able to be a mother. Right now though, I can't see it. I do often feel guilty because my family helps me so much, but I have come to the point where I accept the help, because when I don't, I pay for it.

I struggle each day with pain in my upper back and neck. When my lower back is bad, the pain shoots down to my feet. My feet burn and get bright red! It's AWFUL and I can't stand it--very frustrating. I was told by an EMG doctor (neurologist?) that I have nerve damage and I will be like this for the rest of my life.

I do also have a number (5, I think) of bulging discs throughout my back and neck. I'm considered young I guess for this pain, but my body feels like it's 150! :) Hmmmm...I am awake at night--every night b/c of the pain, so that's pretty tough.

But, in spite of my book of health problems, I still try to be positive. Being in pain for years has really made me appreciate the little things in life and I am definitely more thankful than I used to be.

That's pretty much it. Sorry if it seemed like I was complaining.

Don't ever feel like your complaining to us, you are not! How else can we get to know each other here without tell everyone about us? You have read our post, we don't judge, we listen and we share our views and opinions with each other. What better place to come and talk about your pain and or experiences, or even to vent if you feel the need, than right here with others that know exactly what you are going through?

WOW it does sound like you have just about done it all when it comes to controlling your pain! I do think you have hit upon something flower, I think CP does age a person, allot  more than what most of us want to admit! Anyway if you wake up in the night in pain and come to this site you will more than likely find at least a few of us here, at one time or another, and more than likely we are in the same condition. Misery loves company, so when you come here you will not be alone,  at least most of the time anyway!

Thanks White Beard. Yes, I do think that pain does age a person--but, I also sometimes think that even though it is so difficult, it makes us more sensitive to how others are feeling (in general) on our lower pain days. Did that make sense?

flower what you said makes perfect sense! I think it is easier to be compassionate and sensitive to a persons condition, when you have also experienced the same or similar condition first hand. Because you are not sympathizing with the person but instead you are empathizing with that person and there is a world of difference between the two!  Anyone can show  sympathy to somebody, but not everyone can show empathy! But here, at this forum you get "empathy" and as defined by Taber's cyclopedic Empathy is: "objective awareness of and insight into the feelings, emotions, and behavior of another person and their meaning and significance," Doesn't that pretty well describe most all the folks here? I am glad that you want to join us and become a part of the forum!

Hi Flower,

I will keep this brief because I am having a bad night, so this is a lot of effort to post. But I did want to welcome you to the CP board. I'm glad you finally joined in! I too spent a while just reading before I found the strength to post, but I am so glad that I did, the people here, the friends that I have made have been a Godsend! It is unfortunate that we all suffer from pain, but that is what unites us. As Palady said, we are a strong group. Stubborn, perhaps. We don't give up easily. I'm glad that you've joined our ranks! Welcome aboard!

Ever since I saw your name it's been tugging at me that it sounded so familiar, and then I remember - Bambi! Please don't take offense! I loved that movie, alhtough I cried so when the mother died.

Just gave me a smile to think back. For me, it's been a lot of years!

Flower: Yes, I too offer a belated welcome. I too am married with no children (for many reasons). Empathy and compassion...the people here have it in spades...

PA lady...have the stuffed animal...got it from Disneyland...love "flower" too...heck I truly believe in flower power...I've got so many of them...

Yes, accidents do suck. I've been in a few little ones as well (after the biggie) and even though they're not "major," they still have majorly made me feel awful.
