Sunday's paper here had the conclusion of a story that started back last summer when 2 Internal med Docs were sanctioned by the Lic.board for "overprescribing pain meds" One Doc was found to be not in error and he simply was a Doc trying to help pain patients that fell thru the cracks of other Docs and pain clinics not helping. The other was asked to relinquish his Lic. and he did.
He lied and falsified documents to the board even after he was being investigated by the DEA.
He was found to be prescribing narcotics to patients he had not seen, not requiring more then them picking up the script once a month, filling meds early every month for many,he even documented he say them in the office and right down to entering vitals and weights on folks that said they had NOT been seen in the office for over a year but there was monthly stats entered into the chart for them?
He was found to be prescribing a dangerous combination of meds to many such as a example I recall from the origional charges was a woman who was being given some ungodly amount of oxy-c along with the same ungodly amount of zanax and klonopin each month and had no labs entered for 26 months.
He took no insurance, nomedicaid or medicare, cash only and lots of it. A "pill mill" I believe it the term the reporter used to describe him.
This sadly is just the kinds of things that hurt us even though he was stating he was only trying to help those suffering from non-cancerous types of pain?
