Hello All,

Sorry I haven't been around untill last night. My wife was down and I just didn't have any time to post except a couple short things last night after she left and I got the lawn mowed.

I'm at work today and was out in the warehouse this afternoon with this anoying guy from Miami who buys old electrical suplies for cash. So I was trying to get rid of some old worthless breakers for some cash for the boss. Of course he saw me on his security cammeras which are everywhere and came out to see if I was steeling or cheating him. Even after all this time, he dosen't trust me. I've never stollen a thing from him except time writing to Y'all here which he owes me fifty times over from all the calls I get while not on the clock! Anyway, there was this big Cutler Hammer 1200amp 600volt breaker we'll never use on a eye level shelf which I reached in to just turn to read the front and the dadgum thing fell over and I moved to fast so it wouldn' land on my hand or arm and felt a lightning bolt shoot through neck! I was trying to be sooooo careful too! As I handed my boss a couple c-notes he said, don't hurt yourself out here! Guess what, TOO LATE!! Now I'm here sitting at my desk in pain wondering what I did this time????? We just bought plane tickets to go up to Norfolk, Va. for the Big Tiger Cruise for parrents of the salors on the USS Bataan! Pete Jr. and crew will be leaving for the Middle East the following week. Will I be in pain the whole trip w/ a neck brase on? GRRRRR!!!! Now I have to get the courage up to go tell my boss I'm going to be out of work next Monday & Tuesday after missing so much work with the dadgum surgery! I've been trying to get him while he's not yelling at someone, ain't gonna happen! There's no good time for something like this. It's kind of like walking outside in the eye of a hurricane just knowing that the backside of the eyewall is just about to hit you right in the face! Maybe I'll just wait untill tomorerow. Why can't my life just be normal? Why is there alkways so much dramma? I had the apt. with my wife and the marrage councellor on Sat. He just talked to us one at a time. I was in tears the whole 1/2 hour I was in there as he pulled all kinds of very painfull subjects out of me. My wife was only in there for half the time and then we both went in scheduled another apt. for 2 weeks and paid the guy. I don't know if it's gonna help but as he said, she's here and thats a good sign! I agreed. Oh I'm getting a head ache to go with my neck pain which is pulsing from about a #5 to an #8, it's not suposed to be hurting now dadgumit!! Well, 2:10 and I think I'll break out at 3:15 if I can to beat the dadgum traffic. Thanks for letteing me purge my anger at myself and all the other dadgum thangs!

Before you leave file an Industrial Accident report on that. That way the job will have to pay for it and you can get a medical retirement.

Can you say 'JUSTICE?"

Actually, you should file the report, but I doubt you'd be able to take it any where. Knowing, however, that you just got hurt on the job you really should file the report.

Pete, what bad luck. It sounds as if you hadn't moved fast you'rd have hurt something else anyway. Please look after yourself, hopefully it's just muscle spasm and will settle with rest. I'm crossing my fingers for you.

Pete, sure hope you can get some rest tonight, try using an ice pack..I put my elbow brace in the freezer
over night and I wonder if maybe you could put one of your neck braces in the freezer for
maybe an hour and see if that'd help...I really wish you could take this week off work, do to your scare last
week, I sure hope tomorrow is better for you. I'll send you some prayers and lots of soft hugz...
it was good to hear that you and your wife are getting counseling sure hope it helps....

Pete,
I can't believe your boss accusing you of stealing! That man!!GRRRR!!

But I am concerned that maybe you should file an incident report. In many workplaces you're required to, and it may be grounds for firing if you don't. Check your human resources policies closely. You don't want to get screwed here. And I also wonder if you should call your doctor - especially if this pain continues.

Sorry I got on late tonight and am trying to stay awake long enough to write some replies!

Hugs Pete!

I agree with Tony. Sounds like your boss will be angry no matter what anyone does. Either way you are obligated to file a report with your state. Ya, the boss will get T'd off but oh well. My hubby works for our state's deptartment of Labor and Industry ...the folks who collect and pay out injury claims. (No, he's not a claims person...he just keeps their computer programs up and running) But from what I know you really do need to get this on record with them. That way you have documentation for future reference, not just your word...which won't impress them, unfortunately. Here's a link in your state that will help.

I hope your pain lessens soon. Im sorry to hear about the accident. I would go to the doctor to make sure you didnt do anymore damage to your neck. (((hugs))))))))).

Pete,

I am so sorry to hear about your injury.....!  You have GOT to understand that arm/neck movements must be done with care at all times for the next several months!!  Whatever you do now will affect your outcome, if you aren't careful you can damage the nerves which sometimes doesn't show for a few years...Pete I am only preaching because thats what happened to me!!!  I was up dusting because I was so anal.....for the sake of a dust bunny in addition to the damage that occured from the 3 ruptures...what I did attributed to the irreversible damage....I was stupid in my recovery period...so I speak from experience!

Since your Boss has no CLUE nor does he care to know...YOU have to be responsible for YOU.  He is NOT going to let you take care of yourself appropriately while at work...so don't you think you should take another few weeks off, I'm sure your NS would agree and help accomplish this.

PLEASE FILE a CLAIM now!  Again, I lost my WC claim because I waited too long to file!  Believe me you want them to pay any treatments!!

Pete,

As Patti said, from your description of your boss, he won't be looking out for your ***. YOU have to, at least to the minimum degree required by law. You don't want a pain in the neck (hehe), then a pain in the ***, then a pain from the ***, do you? All that, with the possibility of one of those pains being a ticket or jail time?

Comply with the law, Pete, and live with a clear conscious. Not to mention it is the right thing to do.

I have a hunch you may be afraid about filing any kind of incident report so as not to tick off your boss more. Remember, filing an incident report isn't the same as filing a worker's comp. claim. Fact is, I don't even know if you'd want to go that route because it could easily be shown that you were doing something you shouldn't have been - didn't you say there were cameras? BUT most workplaces require incident reports or you might put your job in jeopardy. So check into that piece. But above all, take care of yourself!

I don't want anything bad to happen to you, Pete. You mean too much to me and the others on this forum. NOw take care of yourself. ONCE AND FOR ALL!!

PS Didn't read before about you and your wife needing counseling at this time. My husband and I went for a couple of years. It works, especially if you have a good counselor.

hi pete, i am sorry you are hurt, sounds like you need some lyrica for the nerve pain. do you have some?
but, i hope you have a great time away from it all- you deserve a break! (not literally...) :) my only question is i noticed you mentioned middle east and surgery around the same time. are you going overseas for an operation? please be careful with that. not preaching- i understand its a lot cheaper- just be safe. and don't catch the swine flu!!

I am truely overwelmed by all of your caring posts! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!!! I'm sorry I didn't get back to y'all sooner! Yesterday when I got home, I checked the forum very quickly and should have posted but my neck and shoulder were hurting so I went and took a very long hot ungreen shower then got in bed w/ my heating pad to try and get the dadgum spazm or whatever it was under control! I was very tired from the days stress and because I didn't sleep well Sunday night after my Spouse left>( I never do! ) so I fell asleep. The next thing I knew, my phone was ringing and I had been sleeping for an hour. It was my wife calling to say good night. She said are you getting up? and I replied, why bother now? I think I'll just skip dinner which I did and fell back to sleep only to wake at 11:00pm. I took my night meds which I normally take at 9:00pm and was wide awake of course till who knows when. I cat napped off and on untill 4:00am and got up fairly refreshed but even better, My neck din't hurt nearly as bad as the night before! YIPPEE!! No damage was done, I'm sure! It was probably a muscle strain or spazm which was taken care of by the Heat & Flexaril the night before! So off to work it was, got there around my normal 6:00am and went to see the boss man about getting Monday & Tuesday off to go see Pete Jr. in Virginia. It was just as bad as I thought it would be! He started about how no one else other than our company out there (in our feild) is working and we should be so thankful we still have our jobs and everyone is taking advantage of him! Even the Foremen who are working 3 - 20 hour days a week in the feild who are not getting overtime, just straight time! Yes, I know it's against the law but these poor guys are afraid that if they say anything, they will lose their jobs! He told me ths first guy who complains is getting fired> real nice guy! Then he went on to say I couldn't go unless the project managers said it was OK to get John, the guy who took my place last time, to leave their jobs in the field and come into the office and cover my stuff. He said every time I leave everything gets messed up but used different words, use your imagination! (job security???) Well it turned out to be a very busy crazy day and I forgot about asking the PA's about John untill late afternoon! So I called John and his Foreman Rich and asked them. They said the boss had already called John and told him he was working in the office Monday & Tuesday because I would be out. I then e-mailed the boss who was out of the office all day to tell him. Right away I got a nasty e-mail back saying I needed to ask the PA's not the foreman. He was just being a bully trying to worry me not knowing that I knew John was going to take my place anyway! So I e-mailed Nick & Jerry (John's PA's) and cc'ed the boss stating that I needed their permission to go see my son off to the middle east to protect their ***E$!!! punched out and left!!! So if he gives me crap about it in the AM, I'm out of there! This is the final straw! I didn't want to miss work with my surgery! I took phone calls every day trying to help him while I was out and I even came back to work early! Enough is Enough! If I was a bad person, I would pretend hurt myself at work and make him and his company pay but I'm not nor ever was I that kind of person even with people like him! I know nice guys finish last, I've been there all my life but someday people like him will get theirs! Geeze, I'm sorry about the novel, I should be answering others posts instead of waisting my time talking about this crap! SORRY! But I forgot one thing, this genius turned off my internet access today! So I couldn't read or answer your posts even on my breaks or lunch which I don't get anyway! Now I can't pull up vendors or manufacturers for product info, which is a big part of my job! We'll have to wait for it to come from the suppliers! He's a real class act! It's going to make my job easier but he will not be loosing $$$ from his employees surfing the net at work which is what he thinks everyone is doing all day but isn't true!! He'll loose a whole lot more!! God bless and help the feableminded! Ok, I'm done now> Again, thanks so much for all your posts, I don't know what I did before I had all of Y'all!!!

Don't worry if you don't get a chance to post to us if you're taking care of yourself! I'm glad you rested and seemed to relax those muscles. But you've even got Lindaloo a bit riled up and that takes a lot to do! LOL So you'd better take care of yourself, even when you're off on Monday and Tuesday!

I know people are afraid for their jobs and as one who's been laid off I sure understand, but we also know what happens when we no longer have our health. That boss of yours is a piece of work. 'Nuff said for now!

Ok, go rest Pete, and look forward to those days off (and don't answer work calls!!).

I know that it is all to easy just to push a little bit harder even though you know you shouldn't be. I too know from experience that that is what gets you in trouble! Hopefully the time that you take off to go see your son off will help you to recoup as well. And that boss of yours.... Well, you know what I think....

That boss of yours is just beyond words.  Is he even human?

Don't you dare take one minute out of those couple of days with your son to take even one phone call from that a** or anyone else that works for him. 

I sincerely hope that you can put all of that crap your boss puts on your shoulders aside and have a care free, pain free, memorable, and wonderful couple of days with your son.  I'll be thinking about you and your family - I know how proud you are of your son, but it must be gut wrenchingly hard to have him going to the Middle East.

Pete, I am sorry to hear that you are trying to manhandle all that electrical equipment but glad to hear you are doing better. I hope your trip to see your son is as wonderful as mine was. We are still waiting to hear if he is heading to Iraq in 6 weeks when he gets done learning how to drive all the vehicles. Some days you feel older than 591/2 and wonder why you can't just hang it up. I know you are already home and hopefully trying to get some sleep. I had to pull a double tonight as a staff member had to call off sick and again I was the only one available to fill in. Tomorrow is even going to be worse. I have to be in by 7 am and won't get home until Thursday at 4 AM. I was thinking, what would happen if we switched jobs. I was in electronics in the Navy and you knew something about drugs and alcohol from years gone by. Maybe a switch would do us both good. Maybe a switch would do our bosses good as well. Be blessed and I hope the saying is true that the best is yet to come.Blessings!

Awe Pete, so sorry that jerk of a boss is running you around this loop...Geezee, anyone ever call OSHA on him?
Maybe it's time and don't let anyone know it was you who called them... make him fire you cause then you can get unemployment
and if your in a union he can't just fire you without union consent, so again he'd be in trouble...
But, anyways don't let this bother ya, just go ahead and take the time off, you and your sons...
I almost daid semper fi but thats Marines.hehehe, aim high is Air Force (nothing can beat the USAF)...hehehe...

Hello everyone, I just got back from work and my neck and shoulders are hurting pretty good right now. I wish I could write to all of you personally but sitting here makes the pain worse and the perc's I'm taking don't do scat anymore! I don't think the pain is from any one thing I did, I think it's just that I'm overdoing it like everyone here is telling me w/ these long days and commutes in the God awful S.E. Fla. traffic. I think I'm going to do some serious talking to my wife this weekend while we are away and try to come up with a plan. I'm not sure how or what yet but I know I can't go on like this. It's just too much and I'm certainly no Father John!!!!! I pretty much just ignored my boss today even when he talked to me, I'm sure he knows I'm really pissed at him about yesterday and it may be worrying him a little. He's a coward and always backs down when he knows I'm really mad. He also knows I'm not afraid of him like the other poor souls I work with. There were no rude e-mails or backsided comments from him today, he pretty much stayed out of my way all day. I wish it was always like that. Yesterday he told me and some others that he is laying off more guys/girls this Friday which has everyone scarred to death except me> I wish he would lay me off!!! Anyway, two more days and I'll be off for 4 days and to all of you who told me not to answer the phone, don't worry I won't!! They can figure out all the problems w/o me! I'm even thinking about taking Wed. off because if I even make my plane home on Tues. evening (it will be a close one time wise) I'll be getting in late and have to get up early after a long weekend of traveling. So, sorry but I have to go lie down now, I'm wooped and the pain is getting worse. Heating pad, my dear friend>> here I come!! Thanks again for all your support, I couldn't wait to get home to read your thoughts! I love you guys! Big Hugz for all!!!

And then ther was one! I'm talkin Chart, I'm talkin!!! He could never keep me away from you! I'm just gonna have to settle for a little less time as it's only when I get home that I can post and some days I'm rattled, ya know? I woke up last night w/ the chills at about midnight, got up and took my temp which was 100. low grade but I'm always 96 or 97 so it definitly was a fever. I also had a sharp pain in my gut so I took a perc and went back to sleep. Got up a couple times and sleepwalked in to pee (old prostate cance problems) then my alarm went off at the usual 4:00am. I felt like crap so I set it for 6:00am and went back to sleep. Got up a 6 and felt a little better so I called the boss and told him I had a fever, headache and my stomac was hurting and he could make the call if he wanted me there spreding germs or to stay home? Foolish me, of course he wanted me there! I was read the riot act about missing so much work w/y neck and with my trip coming up, I just didn't want to hear it! So off to work I went in the God awful 7:00am traffic! It took me twice as long as it does at 5:00 but I arived at 8:00am with only 7 phone calls on the drive in from the guys who needed matterial. Thank Goodness I took a sweater to work w/ me as I was freezing in the air conditioning but sweating when I went out into the 90 degrees outside! I made it through the day somehow and saved this for my last post tonight. I'm going straight to bed when I finish it and staying there till tomorrow am! I can't be sick this weekend, I have to get better! I refuse to be sick when I leave Sat. a.m.!!!!!!! I am not even going to tell my wife about today as I don't want to worry her. I WILL BE BETTER!! So once again let me thank you my guardian angel Chart for carring and posting such nice things!!! You are so sweet!!! god bless you and give you a pain free evning! BIG HUGZ FOR YUZE!!!

I am glad you're home and sleeping and don't worry about writing each of us back. We are all thinking about you even if we don't post.

If you don't get better maybe your doctor can call you in some meds - might an antibiotic be in order? When I start to feel yucky I do the megadoses of Vit. C, although with all these pain meds I can't do that like I used to.

Go to the E.R. or some urgent care facility tonight if you wake up still feeling yucky. At least you could start on meds for the weekend.

Get as much rest as you can and drink lots of fluids! I hope it's just a 24 hour bug and you will be well in time for your big weekend! I'll be thinking about you - lots of hugz to you and to your son! We all look forward to hearing the details of your long weekend.
