Question about an SI Rhizotomy

Hello everyone, my first post on chronic pain... long story short, I finally had bilateral rhizotomy on my SI joint. Unlike other rhizotomies, I had pain start soon after the procedure; I'm now 2+ weeks out and the pain on the right side is gone, but the left side is not so good! It's going down my leg to my ankle and across the low back as well.

I understand (I think I do!) that this can take time, but as time goes on, I feel like I'm getting worse. I've upped my Neurontin again and have added Motrin back into the mix.

Any suggestions, words of wisdom or just good advice?

Welcome to the chronic pain forum. Gosh we do have a lot in common (although I wish it was fun stuff instead of pain and GERD and such!).

I've had SI joint problems along with all kind of others, but never had a rhizotomy. Thought about it once or twice, but no one could ever locate the nerve causing the problem precisely enough. I also have pain down my right leg, and numbness in both feet, and neurontin is one of my meds!

All I know is all these procedures are so complex, and it sounds like something was different about your left side. Have you checked with the doc who did the procedure?

There are others here who have had rhizotomies and RF's, and hopefully they'll chime in, but I wanted to be the first to welcome you. You've been so great to me on the GERD forum!

Rhizotomy did not work good for me..There have been a lot of old post about them if yu can go back throught them, might help..
Let your Pain Management Doctor know about your results and how your feeling, if it was going to help it should've by now, but
that's just my 2 cents of advise..
Hope you get a low pain day soon...

Hi Janice,

Welcome to the CP forum! I am not sure about what is going on with you. I had the R/F done which from my understanding is the same as your procedure just a different name lol. I had mine done at L5-S1 and did really well for about a year. Of course these procedures are just temporary fixes not permanent. It took care of about 75% of my pain on the left side which was a relief. I had two levels done on my neck and had excellent results.

I think I would call my drs office and maybe talk to the nurse or a PA and see what they think is going on. It may be something totally differently. I just don't know what to think may be causing you this problem.
