Rhizotomy for spondylosis

Hi everybody,

I was just wondering if somebody here has had a rhizotomy or knows some information about them like long term effects of having it done multiple times. My mom had her rhizotomy about 2 weeks ago and she's in worse shape than she was before. She's to the point now where even having her hair resting on her back is a painful experience. I've been trying to find information myself but have not been having much luck. The only thing I've seemed to find is that she should have been in phsyical therapy after the rhizotomy. (she was sent home an hour after the procedure was done and the doctor has seen her once since then)

Even if you could point me in the right direction as to where I might find some info, it would be greatly appreciated.

And welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have a serious situation on your hands and Bless your Heart for trying to help mom. Often our parents are more shy about 'complaining' or asking for help and need someone to advocate for them.

I haven't had this procedure myself but many on the forum have. I'm sure they will be along as the day progresses. You could try several things....call the doctor's office and tell them your concerns. Do not be shy at all! There is good and safe treatment for pain and mom needs to speak up with your help. Doctors who do hundreds of procedures per week often forget there are people attached to those body parts they worked on.

Also, come visit the fibromyalgia forum and see if anything there sounds familiar. It's something to consider.

      It is very nice to meet you. My name is Dani. I do hope you can get your Mother to come too. Healing Well Comminuty is an awesome place to be when you are a chronic pain patient.

 

       I am sure others will come and post about Radiofrequency Ablation (Rhizotomy). It was decided that I was not a good candidate for the procedure.  I cannot offer any knowladge in the subject. confused   Wish I could help more.

Thank you Chutz. It is true, I know my mom had a really tough time when she first started seeing doctors about her pain. Alot of them didn't believe the actual amount of pain she was in and even some of our family members still think she is faking. I try to help my mom out whenever I can though. I moved back home for her most recent round of treatments including the rhizotomy. I think I might give the doctor a call

My husband has quite a few Rhizotomies for his condition of spondylosis for his lower back 5th vertebra.

They have been very very effective and last about a year in most patients. It is an out patient procedure.

Really knocks the pain down over 90 % eventually the nerve ending grow back and when he begins to have pain and stiffness he schedules another Rhizotomy.
