I need help for my poor hubby

Good morning everyone!

Two years ago it was found that my husband had colon cancer. The tumor was removed but 3 days later (while still in the hospital) his bowels leak into his abdomen and he was rushed to surgery again. He developed sepsis and ended up on life support for almost 6 weeks. He lost 55 pounds in that time. He had to learn to walk again and all that fun stuff.

So far the cancer is beat and that's not the problem and he's back at work for the railroad. What is the problem is now is that ever since this happened he keeps getting these episodes of pain that absolutely debilitate him. He says if feels like his lower legs have a feeling of having bengay on open sores. He said it feels like pain wants to shoot out of his finger tips. His top teeth will ache and the joints in his legs hurt.

It happens now about twice a week. It had been almost daily. When it hits he takes a darvocet and that will make it bearable. I have surffed the web and asked his doctor too but no one really know what the pain is from.

Does anyone have ANY idea what this might be? Has anyone else had this same problem?

    Good afternoon. My name is Dani. It is very nice to meet you. I am glad you found the Healing Well Community. Perhaps, over time, you can get your husband to join us too. Having support from other in Chronic Pain patients is a very important part of "Whole Life Wellness".

 

     I do not know much about medical conditions. I do not have any firsthand knowladge about cancer or sepsis.

 

     The pain you describe, however. Is indeed very unique. It would be a good idea to get him to a pain management specialist as soon as you can. Also a dentist. Just to rule out common factors. But, as odd as it sounds... be sure the doctor knows about both facial pain and legg pain and that it feels like it is originating fromt he bones. Has his parathyroid ever been checked?

Welcome to the Chronic Pain forum of Healing Well. Like others, I don't know exactly what's happening with your husband, but he really does need to tell his doctor, and if he's only seeing a PCP he likely needs to be referred to a specialist. My guess might be - and this is just a guess - as Jim said a neurologist or rheumatologist, but considering all he's been through his doctor needs to determine that.

You both have been through so much! Sometimes (no offense guys!) men may not be as open about their pain with their doctors because they don't want to be seen as "weak". So maybe if you go with your husband to his doctor that might help? I don't know.

We aren't doctors here and can't give medical advice, but this is a great support group. You and your husband are both welcome anytime!

i know my fibromyalgia has a burning feeling sometimes that reaches the tips of my fingers and toes. but its pretty well managed with lyrica and cymbalta. he could have nerve problems, thats what it sounds like to me. i also have nerve issues in my legs from my back, they are burning and aching, and the same drugs help with their pain. you should have your husband see a neurologist. at least go to his primary care (pcp) and get started, sometimes when you deal with nerves it can take awhile. welcome to HW, please keep us updated, i'll be curious to know his diagnosis.... and congratulations on his recovery, what a miracle!

I went through so much with my hubby with his pains and issues. Over time (18 yrs) we finally got somewhat of a Dx. Fibro. I have been researching his symptoms for over 2 years. I will tell you that finding a name for it could take time if not at all.
