In response to your question about nerve blocks, they generally last 2-8 days for me. Sometimes as long as 3 weeks, but that's really, really rare. However, the nerve blocks were a good diagnostic tool in my case that lead me to decide to go forward with the Radio Frequency nerve ablation (which lasted over 6 years) & then a Spinal Cord Stimulator, which I have implanted at C2. The SCS has provided pretty constant relief ever since I got it programmed. Sometimes I don't get as great of relief from it for a while, but then I just go back for reprogramming & then it helps again. It takes care of about 50% of my total pain, about 70% of the pain in my neck/head/shoulders.
Anyways, I'm certainly not one to fault anyone for trying whatever treatments are out there. If something works for you, that's great. I think what PA & I were gently trying to suggest was that taking on guilt/blame for being in pain usually doesn't help anyone to recover. In so much as there are emotional roots to your pain, I genuinely hope that this program you are trying helps. I just know from my own experience that when I started feeling guilty that I had all these negative hidden emotions that were basically ruining my life through crippling headaches, it just caused my muscles to tighten up which resulted in even more pain. When I was able to just let that go, forgive myself & move forward with my life (as much as possible), I found that not only was I less miserable, but my pain improved as well. It was not even close to 100% gone, but it was noticeably improved. So, please, try to cut yourself a break on the "blocked emotions". If you have that, they will come out in time when you are ready to face them.
feel better,
Frances
My pain dr. did not recommend the nerve ablation for myself. I am not taking on guilt for my pain I just want it gone and am going everywhere possible to get help and answers. I find it difficult to move forward when i have so much pain, no sleep, I am exhausted and feel terrible. Everyday I try to do a little something fun for myself but sometimes I am in bed all day with ice on my head. A few of my meds were changed today so I hope for changes in the next week.
Thanks for caring Frances.
