I hope the antibiotic kicks in, too. I hate that feeling....right on the edge of it getting worse and you just want your body to put the brakes on and start back in the direction of healing! Strep is no fun!

I'm glad you're at least somewhat excited about starting anew. I kind of would be, too, if I had my health. If only we had our health it would be fun to start over!

I was thinking of you and Christmas and how it will be something so different this year. I found out mine will be, too. For years and years my cousin has had Christmas Day at her house. This year they are going to Seattle to be with her daughter and their new granddaughter (who's due earlier in December). And my goddaughter and her husband are going to San Diego to be with his parents. My cousin in Pittsburgh has to work, although if the weather is decent I may go down and stay with her. That's the trouble around here - so much is dependent on the weather. I used to drive in anything, but now I'm a wimp, especially with an older car. I hate icey roads and blowing snow! And I can't believe we've had snow already, although not right where I live, just a few miles south.

Anyway, if my prediction is right you can start referring people to my new swamme business! LOL

Hope you get some good rest tonight, and have good news for us all tomorrow!

The couple that came and looked at the house today was that young couple that was just here a week or two ago, they came with their parents, they spent a half hour or so looking at the place, I just hope they make an offfer and they want the place right now I really don't know either way!  I just keep my fingers crossed.  You know PALady I try not to think about the holidays coming up, to much uncertainty right now for me to think about it!

Still have my fingers crossed you get an offer soon. Be sure to let us know! And yes, I understand about the holidays and not planning. For me, it will probably be last minute - including plans to just curl up at home. I've done that before many years ago. You get through it!

I mostly tend to dread the holidays because there's so much family stuff. I'm relieved when Jan. 1 comes!

Thank-You so much for thinking of me! I am doing OK  I finished the antiboitic my throat is much better, not perfect yet but much better, and my surgery is healing! Unfortunately Chart I haven't heard anything on th house yet, no bids or anything. I was so hoping to hear something!  Anyway I am doing Ok I guess. I had been trying to get a flu shot but no one has them in our area, all the flu shot clinics have been cancelled because they can't get the vaccine. I called the VA and ended up driving 55 miles one way to the VA to go get it!!! But it was just the regular one they don't have the swine flu vaccinee in yet anyway the price was right (free) so it was worth the drive! Contrary to the beliefs of allot of people I know, I am a firm believer in the flu shots! I understand how they actually work in the human body, and I think they are a very good thing! I get them every year!

     You know I guess I have just been a little down lately, the weather has been rainy and cold and dank and dreary and I hate that the days are getting shorter! It just doesn't help anything either. I guess I was just hoping everything would be finished  by now and I would be getting on with my life, instead of everything just dragging out!  Anyway I am sorry for not posting and keeping you all up to date, you guys are so good to me and I owe you all at least that much!  and actually a whole heck of allot more! I  really am sorry,  Please forgive me,  I will try and do better!

You are all so dear to me, I really don't know what I would do without YOU!!!!!

There's nothing to forgive. We're just concerned about you and I think you tend to focus so much on helping others here that you forgte to let us know how you're doing.

I know about the dreary, cool, rainy weather. And the shortened daylight. I feel bummed about it too, especially because our summer was so cool, and now fall seems like it's not bringng at least some sunny, crisp days. It's been windy here, too, and the leaves are going to blow off the trees before they've ever had a chance to completely change color!

I'm not ready for winter either. It seems like it's an endless wait until spring when you live up north!

BTW I was at another local shelter this week and nearly brought home a cat! I'm still thinking about it. I am so tired of being alone, and I've never gone this long without a pet, yet I don't know what the future is going to bring (just like you) and my head tells me it's not a good time - but my heart tells me other things! :-)

I know exactly what you mean! I have been strongly thinking about getting a  small dog again, or even a cat, but I don't know where I will be if the house sells, and having a pet might make it harder to sell this house right now, and I really don't think ( if I got one) that I could bare giving it up!  Logic and my brain does tell me one thing but  yet the yearning in my  Heart  tells me something else!  I just wish things were not so complicated!

You know PALady by focusing on helping others I can ignore or try not think about my own, it is not that I do not want to share,  (and maybe this is kind of selfish of me)  but it does make it easier for me.  And really so many others have it so much worse off than what I do!

You know PALady maybe you should get that cat. I mean you do not plan on moving or anything do you? I do remember you once talked about moving in with a relative or something? are you still thinking about doing that? If not then why not get it, a cat is pretty easy maintenance, and easier to take care of than a dog.  I know I have several reasons that concern me about getting another pet, being able to sell the house is a huge concern, and then worrying about  what happens when I do sell the house and where do I live especially with a pet??  Even with those concerns it is so tempting!!

I figured you would understand the conflict about getting a little four legged friend! Especially when you start going to shelters like I have (probably teasing myself deliberately!), and the shelter I just went to is in a not so hot part of town, but yet the people there really care. And the cats are in larger enclosures in small groups rather than in small little ones like in most places. So they let you go right into each enclosure, and all the cats come around! I actually had one little kitty use me for a set of monkey bars - and she got me from behind and next thing I knew she was on my shoulder! But the one I really took to is about a year old, orange and white, and her name is Pumpkin Tweetie! She let me hold her and cuddle her without any fight or fuss, so you could tell she was used to being handled by people. She came in with her sibling, who got adopted. BUT her owners had to move to a place where they couldn't take pets, which leads me to my main reason for hesitating.

There does exist a possibility I'll have to move, to somewhere. I mean, I have a small house that needs many repairs, but it's in a nice little neighborhood by the lake, and it's so safe for a single female. I fortunately paid off the mortgage years ago, but that doesn't stop the taxes and heat and garbage collection and water bills from coming, does it?! Right now I am appealing to get some advance funds from my retirement account, but they'll only let me have one advance, then I have to wait until 2011 for more - and really, there's little in there anyway. So it all depends on how long SSD takes, and how far I can stretch the money. I am being really, really frugal (always have been) but if it gets really bad I may have to close up the house or put it up for sale (course I'd have to find a buyer and in the shape the house is in I'd only get the lowest price), and therein lies the problem re: a pet.

I thought I might go stay with my cousin, who has a small 2 bedroom condo, and she at one time says that's fine, but then in the next conversation will talk about how her daughter may need to come back and live with her for awhile. I know my cousin means well, but sometimes she overextends herself with offers of help, and I have to be realistic. Plus I'd be stuck in this small apartment, which is 3 hours from where I live, all day! And all my papers and stuff tnat I need (not even want) well, I don't know where I'd fit them cuz her place is full of her stuff from her divorce 3 years ago.

I just realized I'm hijacking your thread!!!! Please everyone - this is White Beard's thread! But I did want you to know I understand about the uncertainty of it all. Yours is even more uncertain in the near future, because you know you're selling your house, and you're right having a pet there right now could make it more complicated to sell. Plus you've got to heal from your surgery and everything. So once you decide where you're going after the house sale, then you'll get a friend for yourself!

By the way, has it snowed there yet?

You have not hijacked my thread, I thank-you for your posting. It sounds like you live in a place very similar to me, But we are out in the country! No we have not had any snow yet but my daughter that is a nurse at Mayo Clinic said they had at least 3 inches of the white stuff yesterday and they got out their sled and pulled my grandaughter all aound the pasture on it!  She said the she had a great time! They an inch or two last week but it did not stay even a day. But she said this was really quite  a snow fall for it being so early in the year! That doesn't even sound like fun to me any more! I really used to like winter, but as I get older, it just seems to be more of a hassle and I really hate it!

I do hope the house sells soon! I really hate the idea of spending another winter out here.  I have a rather big drive way and I can not shovel the snow  off of it, and everyone out here wants 20 or 25 dollars to clean it off! if it snows allot that is a bigh chunk of change! Last year we had a couple of times it was coated with ice, like an inch and a half of it! That is worse than snow! Anyway Chart you always seem to be there to post when I need the support! I do thank You for that! If you don't mind me asking where are you at that you have flood warning?  That sounds like the midwest as we have allot of those warnings popping up in areas not far from where I am, we have had so much rain lately!

You know when I was in Alaska I got a Yorky, Silky, Poodle mix, her name was Kneesaa as in Star Wars Ewok  Princess Kneesaa, our kids were young and they thought she looked like an Ewok thus the name. Anyway she was the absolute best dog I have ever had! She let the girls dress her up in cabage patch doll cloths and everything, but as soon as I came home she was in my lap! At night she used to lay on my pillow and wrap herself around my head!  She was the best dog anyone could ever want!  I would love to have another dog like her! She had long hair but did not shed,( must have been the poodle in her)  She was much larger than a regular Yorky but a tad smaller than a poodle! After her we had Moggie I think I have a picture posted of him with a santa hat on, Kneesaa was just a tiny bit smaller than what he was but much lighter in weight!  Moggie was really solid he was a good dog but, but not near as cuddlely as Kneesaa was! and her fur was softer and curly and darker with many different shades of brown. I will see if I can find a picture and post it on Chutzie husbands web site!

 Chart what type of dogs do you like?  are you a miniture pincher fan? Actually the type of dog I would really like to have is a Golden Retreiver, I have always wanted to have one! They are such a loving devoted dog, loyal and well behaved when properly trained.  But they are just so big and do require some space!

I sure do understand about that snow removal stuff! Fortunately, I have a very short driveway, and in the winter always park my car right at the end so there's less shoveling. But if it snows a lot you've got that heavy gunk that the plows leave behind. My cousin has a truck and small snow plowing business, so when it's really bad he swings by and does mine for no cost. I do owe him several pumpkin pies, though!

I remember from your photo how long your driveway is - that would be way too much to shovel! On days when you have to get out, maybe you have to park your car at the end of your driveway the night before. I also bought those things you put on the bottom of your shoes that are like studs on snow tires for walking on ice. I think mine are called get a grips although there's a different brand, too. I now have two pairs and keep them on my boots all the time! Falls - too scary for me! Especially on ice!

I would've loved to have a sheltie, if I had a dog..I was allergy tested 2 years ago
and found out I'm allergy to dogs, very allergic..However I have 3 cats and they are well looked after
Yorkies are cute..Breeders are the best way to go for pure bred, but the shelters have a lot of good
dogs too...2 of my three cats are rescued...
I'm in Texas, just south of Houston and we've had a lot of rain in 3 days, that's why flash flood warnings
but it's supposed to clear for tonight..
But I lived in Northern States and know the snow can be very hard to shovel or plow, my dad uses an plow...
Snow might look pretty coming down but it's very very heavy and don't you try to shovel it WhiteBeard or
I'll yell at you..it'll be like what Pete would do eh...lol just joking Pete...so I'll be hopeing your house sells...

Oh, Char, I had a sheltie growing up, after my springer spaniel died! But anymore I'd always get a rescue animal. There are so many on petfinder! Even purebreds being given up because of financial hardship, or an owner dies.

I wrote you a book yesterday explaining how sorry I was for not writing, how happy I am that your doing well and a very long story about my phillosophy on pets and why everyone should have one! Then my computer farted and beeped and all was gone!
Anyway, I haven't had and still dont have time to rewrite it all, it was a bunch of jibberage anyway! But really, it sounds like your neck and shoulder are coming along great! Another month or so you'll be almost as good as new! Now if you can just sell thart house> Yea, me too! I feel like I'll never sell mine! Then get you a nice dog, cat or bird! Yes, I wrote you about how anyone who thinks a dog is mans best friend never owned a bird! I will not go there again though! I love my Rose the wonderhound just as much as my parot Angie who's like another kid!
So hope you will forgive my absence and I'll try harder soon as I finish the *^$!!2@())(^%!! Barn!!

That is an excellent idea about using those grippers on your boots I have seen them but have never used them! I will have to try that, as that is one thing that definitely scares me, is slipping and falling! Unfortunately I can not park in the street in front of my house as the association does not permit it! and the road its self is to narrow for it and the road is a main thoroughfare through the lake. the speed limit is 25 mph but everyone does 40 past my house, and the worse offenders are the school busses! I could park up on the street ( a court) on the side of my house, so that might be an option I suppose. Unfortunately the person that used to do our drive way is my wifes boss's husband, and she is the one who came to the house with my wife after our first court date and she started raising cain with me too! So I am pretty sure I can't count on him to keep the drive way cleared this year!

You know I have been seriously thinking, what if I moved out? I mean she did! Why should I be the one stuck out here? Considering I am the one with the medical problems and cannot do the physical things required to keep the place up! She has moved into town and she does not have all that stuff to worry about doing! Yet she is more than capable of doing it! and I am not! And reguardless of what I have to do to keep the place up and presentable to sell it, she will get her 50% from the sale of the house! Anyway I have been thinking allot about this, and I think I am going to talk to my lawyer about it! I don't know if it is a viable option or not, but it is something I am going to really check out

That does sound like a great idea to consider. Sometimes the realtor will maintain the property, as they have a stake in this, too. Only problem would be paying the mortgage, but it might really force your wife to pull her own weight. Do you have a friend you could maybe stay with, and store your stuff?

I was thinking of parking at the end of your driveway, in the driveway, not on the street. My street is like yours - very narrow. We're not supposed to park on either side, but some of my neighbors do it all the time. In the winter it really bugs me because sometimes the plows won't come through (it's a very short street, about a block long) if they can't fit or have to maneuver around.

Anyway, those get a grips are worth every penny! I think I got mine on QVC (don't know if I can say that here!).

Sorry i missed this thread WB, I'm so pleased your surgery went well and everything is improving for you. I'm also glad you're not "doing a Pete" as PAlady said and overdoing it. I'll keep my fingers crossed for your house sale. How are the housing markets going overthere? Things seem to be going back to normal in Australia except they're raising interest rates. Can you afford to rent and pay the mortgage? If you can it sounds like the perfect solution to dealing with your driveway. Are there any charity groups around that could offer you help with cleaning or anything? While you're still healing.

Did you fill in your complaint form? Lots of questions, sorry, I'm just interested.

I'm unfortunately flaring badly right now so I haven't been around as much but I'm sorry I didn't spot this thread. Best wishes for all you're dealing with and some big HUGS to go with it, golitho

White Beard I would definately talk to your lawyer about at least having your ex pay for part of the upkeep of your property until it sales. She has an interest in it too. It shouldn't be placed all on your shoulders if she will get 50% of the sale price. Glad to hear your doing well, how's the arm and shoulder pain coming along. It took some time for the tingling in the arm and the hand numbness to subside after my cervical fusion.

I'm in Ohio and very worried about the snow removal here this winter also. We have a detached garage at the rear of our property so we have to clear a walkway to the garage and the pad outside the garage to get the cars out. I definately can't shovel and my husband is always hurting after shoveling. I'm hoping that we can come up with enough funds to purchase a used snow blower. My husband is a maintenance supervisor and can fix/work on just about anything.

Pete your not on the s-list, your just a very determined person and I don't see you changing. I'm like that too but my husband tries very hard to keep a tight reign on my over achieving personality. I get scolded often for over doing it. I thought you finished the barn?

White Beard I hope your house sells soon. Ohio isn't much better as far as the housing market goes. I think there are 300 houses on the market here and I'm not in a large city. We'd like to sell our home too, it's way too big for us but with the market like it is we couldn't sell it and get what we owe on it. We can't afford to take a big lose either. Have you watched any of the shows on tv about staging your house? It does make alot of sense.

No your not on my **** list or on any other list! Sorry for not replying to your post earlier, I  type very slowly when I started my post yours  and several others wasn't even there when I started my reply then after I submitted it,  that is when  I seen all the other rplies including yours up there. I have problems using my hands ( not related to bad disks, or that is what they tell me anyway, that is why I have had to give up sculpture and most of my art)  so I am slow at typing and have a difficult time of it!  Chat is a real challenge for me so usually I just watch and eventually give up qand leave!  Anyway I do appreciate your post, be patient with me I usually always get around to responding to everyones post ( or at least I always try to!)  So I hope there is no hard feelings! Your as much part of my family here as anybody!

Jag I am somewhat familiar with that area I have relatives in Toleteo (spelling)  and I was born in Ft. Wayne and have many family over in that area. I think they actually get more snow over there than what we get where I am at! I am just not overly pleased with the way I was stuck with staying in the house! If I would have know how she was going to manage it, I would have done it first! But I was trying to look out for her, allot of good that done me! IT is what IT is! I guess!

Glad to hear that your recovery is still going well! Just a quick thought about the snow removal: do you have any kids in your neighborhood who might be willing to shovel your driveway for a quick buck? Kids, especially ~ middle school age kids always seem to be looking for money/odd jobs (at least around here). You could probably pay them half as much as you would the plow people.

As for dogs, I do have to say that golden retrievers are definitely the best! I'm a little biased though. I've had goldens my whole life (we have 3 at the moment, one of which is my dog -- he just turned 1 yr old yesterday!). They are wonderful dogs -- very intelligent, loving, loyal. But you're right, they do need a lot of space to romp. They are very active, athletic dogs. Maybe you'll end up moving to a place with a nice big backyard. :-)
I'm generally not a small dog person, but my favorite of the small dogs is the king charles caviler. They've got fantastic temperaments as well!
