Update thread for Straydog

Palady thank you so much, you are a sweetie to help me out here. Yes, I can reply to any post but I am unable to start a new post. When I hit the submit button nothing happens.

I went to the ortho on Wed and he was floored when he saw what the ER nurse did with my arm. The white  cotton stuff they put on wet, it hardens somewhat once it dries, not as hard as plaster tho. The arm was not wrapped properly causing swelling and loss of circulation and the alignment was not right!! Not only that but they had my fingers nearly completely covered so very little movement of the fingers. Fingers are in one position and stiff from not being able to  move them.

He re-wrapped my arm with new stuff no caste too much swelling. I go back next Wed he will see how the swelling is, then if its down he will put a caste on. No caste till its gone.

He is hoping by catching the mistake early made by the ER nurse, that by getting it immobolized properly and getting it in a caste eventually the alignment will be acceptable. He said there is no way I would ever do surgery on that arm, you are too high risk of a patient with too many serious health issues. My reply is was no problem dr, I will take it how ever it heals, I am not in the market for any surgery. I go back next Wed. Hugs to all.

Make sure to get plenty of rest, can you ice your arm? cause maybe ice would help the swelling...

Hey Ladies, thanks so much. If I try to start a new thread, the minute I hit submit, an error message pops up on my screen and asks if I want to continue yes/no but does nothing else. Have no clue what has happened.

All I can say is you really have to be careful going to these places.

Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to going to the ER. I broke my ankle a couple of years ago, and they made me walk around on it for 2 weeks. My gastro doctor took one look at it and ordered an x-ray, when my husband and I looked at it, we could pick out the very obvious break, as did my G.I. doc. A stomach doctor could read the x-ray of my ankle, but the ER doc couldn't?

Sorry you are going through so much Susie. Keep it elevated as much as possible. I hope the swelling goes down quickly!

Well, I have not tried to start a thread yet to see if things are working or not. I thought I would do a little test thread the other night and fell asleep sitting here. lol.

Dani, yes those tracking cookies can really mess with a computer. I do weekly maintenance on my puter to keep that sort crap away lol. There has been times my idea of fixing this thing would be to chunk it out the window lol. My computer room is upstairs.

I noticed a few minutes ago I went into someone else's post and got that error message again and I cannot remember who it was, rats.

If I am not logged into the site, all posts appear as if they have been unread, thats my hint that I am not logged in-also you cannot reply to a post of you are not logged in so I know thats not the problem. That would be too easy.

Trying to ice my arm is out of question because of the thick hard cotton stuff used to immobilize my arm. A couple of times in the last few days I do not know if I am imagining things or not but, this wrap has at times felt loose like maybe some of the swelling is going down. But, if it is, the swelling comes back-so I don't know.

I know one thing, I am sick of being one handed, Once I get a caste it is going to be a very long 6 weeks of wearing it. That will put me into December. My husband mouthed off today at how I have become pretty creative using one hand, like trying to open a twist off top, I put whatever I am trying to twist open between my feet and turn the lid with my right hand.ha!ha!-very funny I say. As a result of being one handed the husband has been introduced to the mop, lawnmower, weedeater, finding out where the washer and dryer are at in the house, carrying in groceries, taking out the trash, moving trash carts to the curb, cooking, feeding the dogs, pooper scooping the backyard every day, filling water buckets for the dogs, checking the mail out at the curb, folding laundry and putting it away, learning how to hang clothes on clothes hangers, changing sheets on the bed,  and  a few things are to come,lol. And he always thought the good fairy did all of these things. Yes, this may be a good thing after all, quite a learning experience for him!!!

I am not going to post on my other thread, I noticed tonite it was spread out all over so we will leave that one alone.

Sorry to hear about your arm Susie, it is a pain using one arm. You just don't realise how much you rely on two until you've only got one!!! Super frustrating being reliant on help all the time. Have you got someone to help you get dressed etc?
I really hope it settles down fast for you. Can you take anti inflammatories? I guess rest and elevation are the ways to go if you can't ice. TG the doc picked up the nurses mistake imagine having to rebrake it!!! I won't go there.
