Trapped nerve

Dear All

My wife had a varicous vein operation 11 years ago. Unfortunately, following the surgury it is generally accepted that her femoral arterial nerve was trapped. this has caused her to be in a chronic pain situation since this time.

She has tried many different drugs and procedures however she is still in no better a position than the first day folloing the original operation. Even oramorph does not facilitate any assistance with the pain in her groin.

We are at a loss as to what we can really do to help her. My wife is still fit and active at the age of 80!!

Any suggestions of help and/or guidance would be warmly received.

And welcome to the Chronic Pain Family! This truly is a great bunch of folks and as you'll find we all care deeply about each other.

I'm so sorry your wife has suffered so long and there is hope that she can be more comfortable. Lots of suggestions will come your way. Take what you think will work for her. Please consider going to a university/teaching hospital nearest you. They are all over the world and often we forget that they are available to all of us. They are on the front edge of healthcare and treatment options. At the top of the column on main page is a 'sticky' called Chronic Pain 101. In there is information on lots of aspects of how to deal with pain and ways to get more help. In there is a link to a list of these hospitals across the globe. I put the link here for you so you didn't have to search for it.

Give them a call and explain your problem. Let them know that you need a doctor who can help your wife and of course explain her age. That might just catch their ear. ;-)

She sounds like an amazing woman! And you're mighty special too...getting online and trying to find her some help. You two make a special team.
