I am going to be running from one doctors office to another next week.....Tuesday morning at 6:30 am is the cardiac cath. I am glad that it is bright and early but at the same time, I am his first one of the day, so at least I will hopefully be out of there by noon time.  I still have to stay for 4-6 hours flat shakehead , not moving that leg for fear of dislodging the clot once they are done but once that is closed and the doctor feels it is okay, I can go home. 

Wednesday is the MRI for my wrist, and then off to the ortho to find out what he says he is going to want to do about this necrosis thing.  I am hoping that either the first radiologist is wrong, or that it is still early staged so that he can just do the cast thing for a few months to see if that helps. I am not happy though that my wrist and hand are so painful tonight it's not funny. One way or another, I will be happy to get rid of some of the pain associated with this stuff. My hips are screaming right along with my wrist though, so at least it's not alone. wink

And it's been raining all day, that kind of cold , chill to your bones kind of rain.....and that has my back in an uproar all it's own. My husband noticed last night that it was swollen. If you were to run your hand down my spine, you can feel the muscles and the area around the lumbar spine all swollen and tight as a rubber band. sad

And Friday, I get to see my dentist again, who is going to pull a tooth....He insisted on doing a root canal on a tooth that I told him would not hold one. Every one that I have ever had done has resulted in the tooth cracking /fragmenting and then I have to get it pulled. And he knows this. But he insisted in doing this stupid root canal and the tooth has broken three times since then. mad So when it broke last time, he went ahead and tried to rebuild the tooth with a temporary filling and the post and core for the crown. It's taken so long getting approval, that the tooth has broken a fourth time and there is nothing left to rebuild the tooth with, so now it is coming out on Friday.... smhair

Anyway, that's my week coming up....I hope that each one of yours is going to be much better. :-)

Sandi, I hear the explaination about the pain increasing with the rain. I have noticed that since the weather has turned cold and the raons are hitting, there is an increase in pain. Sorry to hear about the tooth but hopefully it will be taken care of this week. It is just hard to think about loosing teath as we are set up to have them all. I hope your different dr visits this next week goes well and that you find relief and escape from the pain. Blessings!

I realize you posted some of this, but I guess I didn't realize you had so much going on! It's likely me - my mind doesn't seem to hold onto information for very long these days.

I will wish for you that your upcoming week goes smoothly, yields some positive information, and goes by fast. I hate those weeks with all the doctors appointments on a daily basis. You hardly have a chance to catch your breath to try to talk to the next guy. I always want to ask questions and try to prepare for appointments and procedures, but when you have so many on top of eachother, you almost just have to go with the flow.

Thank you Father John. I feel like an idiot some days complaining but I am just so tired of all of these different aches and pains , that even the fentanyl and the roxicodone can't do anything with.
The weather plays havoc with those of us with chronic pain, at least that's been the experience of everyone that I know with it. The doctors tell me that it is because of arthritis but I think it is just that our bodies have so much to deal with all of the time that when the weather changes like this, that our bodies say, okay enough....I just wish that mine would find a new way to say that.......LOL
As for the tooth, there is some frustration involved simply because I told the dentist and he knows from previous attempts that my teeth just don't do well with root canals for some reason but he insisted that this one would be different. After he took the nerve out, it fractured within 6 hours.......and refractured several times since then.
I don't like dentists for that reason.....and now I have to sit through another painful extraction that I don't want.
I'm sorry, I don't usually vent like this.....my frustration and anxiety are showing I guess.

Good morning PA Lady,
You should be asleep still and so should Father John...guess we are all up tonight suffering. I wish that weren't the case for any of us.
It seems that these things just happen in bunches, things quiet down for a bit and then they suddenly happen to go wrong at once.
I was reading tonight on an orthopedic site that if this avascular necrosis shows up on xrays, that it means that it is an advanced stage and surgery. I probably shouldn't have read that, but the ortho also led me to believe that he thinks that it is an advanced case..so I suppose it shouldn't be a surprise to read that.
I am like you, I want to be able to have some time to ask questions, figure out what needs to be done and talk to the doctors about test results, but this week is going to be one that doesn't allow that......at least not at most of the appointments.
Thank you for the hugs, it's nice to get them sometimes and tonight I feel the need for one.....

    Good morning Sandi!  Cardiac cath's are no fun at all, and even after it is over with, you will have that groin pulling pain. It is also a worry when your trying to use the bathroom, as it seems to put pressure in that area. I have had two of them, once when I had my HA, and then again a few yearl later when I thought I was having another one, but it turned out to be Angina. At anyrate, I hated them, but it was never as bad as I had thought it was going to be, and went very smoothly. It is very importand as you say, to lay very still after it is done, so that it can clot properly. Oh, and then on to the tooth!....I hate to go to the Dentist! Pain...Pain...always pain with them. But there are some that know what their doing, and it's not as much of a problem as what we think it's going to be. I cracked a tooth while on vacation, and my FORMER DENTIST!....thought he could save the tooth! Yeh...Right! Well he capped it, and to the best of my memory, was going to make a crown for it, but I never made it that far, and he sent me to a surgen to have it removed. I will never forget what the surgen said when I got there. He was blistering mad that the dentist even tried to save the tooth, as he said it was fractured all over and the dentist new he couldn't save it. When the dentist worked on me, he had to give me at least 4 to 5 shots to deaden the jaw. When I saw the surgen, he only had to give one. He was very good at it. I will have to tell you a story on me with this.....the surgen told me not to smoke at all after the tooth was pulled, and I said no problem! :) Well about an hr after I got home....there I was on the balconey of my appartment, a piece of gause hanging out of one side of my mouth, and a cig hanging out the other! Yep!....you guessed it.....I was back at the office within 48 hrs with a dry socket! :(     ......and I got my rear chewed out good for it from the surgen. I had to go back every other day or so to have it flushed out and repacked for a couple of weeks or so, and was a long process. Whew...a long story I know, but thought my stupidy might serve as a warning to others to follow what the Dr tell us to do, to the T! I hope you get to feeling better, and please keep us updated on your progress too! Have a great day!....Now Scram! :)

Wow 123 what a week you have, I don't envy you at all and will be thinking of you (good things) to help you make it through. Just think though get it all over with in one week and hopefully the following week will be quiet for you. Do you have to fix Thanksgiving Dinner? I wasn't going to do that but I guess one of my kids doesn't have anything going on soooooo I am cooking. I like to do as much as possible ahead of time so I'll make my dressing this weekend and freeze it, grind my crandberries and make the salad so hopefully I'll get a jump on it.


I hope they can help you with your pain and that you have a better week!!!

   Sandi, My apology to you!...Sometimes after reading my reply's.....I often realize that it seems that the story is all about me. I don't mean to sound that way, but when I read a post that I can relate to, I get off on a tanget about myself. I will try to watch out for that in the future. Like Randy Travis's song says "my intentions were the Best" I do wish you well, and will be thinking about you, and hope you have a speedy recovery. I check this forum almost on an hourly basis, if not more to check in on the lives of our friends here. I consider you as one of those friends.......ok,.....now you can Scram! :)

I'm going to bop you on the head (already threatened straydog with it!) for thinking you're complaining! Ok, I won't bop you, you've got enough going on! But seriously, you DO have so much going on how can your posts be considered complaining? Dear lady that's what we're all here for!

And you've got some scary stuff going on - so much in one week. Like someone said it seems to happen that way at times. Some days I'd love to put some of our doctors through that drill (I always think of the movie The Doctor and if you've never seen it, it's old but on DVD) and see how they'd do going from appointment to appointment, procedure to procedure, filling out forms, answering questions, trying to THINK about it all and absorbing what feedback you get. Bet their minds would be drowning by the end of the week. And I'm a health care provider myself and know from seeing this from the inside out how different it is. So please, keep us informed on how things are with you!

Dentist stories. Oh, heavens. I won't go into mine either but Straydog (Susie) and I had some threads going awhile back that were very similar to your story and ScreamingEagle's. And several others here have had some nightmare scenarios. I have a "devil" dentist and an "angel" dentist now, and thankfully I found the latter who extracted the tooth (after I had received a new crown and a root canal - in that order) at no charge, and is going to put an implant in for almost nothing, and also had some good conversations with my devil dentist who is now going to put a new crown back on the implant post (I don't know how this works, my first one) at no charge. Gee, nice of him since he got several hundred dollars from me before! Ok, I did go off into my stuff (see Screaming, you're not the only one who gets sidetracked!) but it seems there's a growing cluster of us who have had these experiences. And we're just on the CP forum!

I'm sending you more hugs for the week, and just saying do your best to get through it. That's all you can do, right? You said you're like me and like to ask the questions, prepare, etc., but you likely won't be able to do that for everything so maybe think of the critical ones now and make peace with the fact you can't do it all. Easier said than done, I know.

Oh - a last thought about your wrists. You mentioned seeing an ortho but it he/she a hand/wrist specialist? I only ask because the hand specialist I've seen in the past for my carpal tunnel and trigger fingers and arthritis and such always seems to know so much more....and I wonder if you need more than a general ortho.?

I am lucky for the most part , the doctors that I do have are pretty good about listening and keeping up with the other doctors.
Although I have had my share of bone heads in the past. I am pretty good about telling dotors that I hired them and I can fire them if they don't give me the kind of care that I want/deserve as a patient.
I learned after my first back surgery that a doctor may have all the credentials in the world but if they can't communicate and listen to their patients, then they aren't good doctors.
I will let you all know what happens after each appointment. Hopefully, there will be some good news somewhere this week.
I read your thread and although I don't know much about some of the things you are experiencing, I am hoping that this new doctor will be able to help you figure out what is going on and start getting you the treatments that you need to help you feel better.

Hello Screaming Eagle,

I have had one before, I had to have it before a hysterectomy because of another abnormality with this ST wave thing. That time the cardiologist was scary. He kept telling me that I was going to have a heart attack on my way to the hospital.....he wanted me to go by ambulance. Anyway, it's a long story but that one came out okay. I always thought that if you had one, that was it. You never had to have another but I know different now. I know that there was some strange thing with the III lead this time too......so who knows what it is. I think it might be angina, but who knows for sure. confused If it is, then maybe they will know after this is done if it is there or not. I will hope for not.

I'm sorry that you have gone through this too. If I remember correctly, you are in your 40's as well? Or maybe I am confused. It wouldn't be the first time.....LOL

Are you on any meds now? How is your heart doing now?

I think we all have those horror stories about dentists.....seems that dentistry has it's fair share of ones who aren't good, just like every other branch of medicine does. But there are also some really good dentists out there as well. We just have to look for them.

My husband had a dry socket once and I had to change the packing each day.....don't want to do that again. He said it was the  most painful thing he's ever experienced. smhair

I don't want to find out.

When I had my hysterectomy, I had it the same week as Thanksgiving . It was hectic but I still managed to make Thanksgiving dinner.  I have my mother in law come to our house for dinner. She is alone since my father in law died and I hate the idea of her not having anyone to have dinner with. She brings some of her special dishes and I do the rest of the dinner and it's a well established tradition. This year, we are adding my oldest daughter's boyfriend to the mix at the house since her grandmother wants to "interrogate" him about his "intentions" toward her granddaughter.....LOL Poor kid! smilewinkgrin

 He has no idea what he is facing.....She is grandma's first grandchild, so she is going to be "tough" with him but not too tough.....it's mostly just to meet him ....

I am going to soak my turkey in the brine and then roast him. I make the stuffing with my younger kids each year. They love to get up and help stuff the turkey and put him in the oven......then we get the rest of the stuff ready and it's a long, but fun and tiring day.

I will rest after that......

You don't need to apologize for anything. It's good to know that someone else can relate and explain what they have experienced with a procedure or a test.  I love Randy Travis's voice and I know the song that you are talking about. I'm a big country music fan.....don't worry about relating your own experiences. It is reassuring to know that someone else has been down the same road and come out okay on the other side.

Hi PA Lady,

I remember reading about that dentist and the problems you were having with him, and the tooth and the new dentist. I am so glad that you found the new dentist and he has been so understanding and compassionate toward you. There are good and bad doctors/dentists in all fields of medicine and we have to sort our way through them to find the good ones. You aren't going to go back to that devil dentist of yours, are you? He treated you horribly and then to make you pay for treatment when he is the one who caused you the problems to begin with makes me so angry. Is there any way that you can get him to refund at least some of that money you had to pay him? I remember thinking that it was almost like he was extorting money from you because he knew that you needed treatment and you didn't have any other option at that point.

sad I don't think that most doctors could handle the schedules that they want us to keep . And you are right, it is difficult to keep all of the information straight and then with some of them, trying to get any information is difficult at best. But I have learned not to leave the office unless I have the answers that I want . Too often they forget what they tell you and if you don't know what they mean by a certain term or aren't sure of the treatments , they tend to get impatient.....ah well. Thankfully, they aren't all like that. :-)

The ortho said that if the MRI shows what he believes it will , he is sending me to a hand surgeon for a consultation and then have him assist in the surgery......that is , if I agree with it.....I know there is only one hand surgeon/reconstruction hand surgeon around me, so the pickings might be a bit slim. I may have to look outside my area if I don't like the one around here.

Thanks for the hugs, I will hold onto them for later this week. Even though I have done the Cardiac Cath thing before, it is still intimidating, just because of the type of test it is.....

I'm glad to read about the referral to a hand surgeon for an eval. And if you don't like the local one I think it's worth the drive to find one.

Yes, believe it or not I am planning to go back to the "devil" dentist to have him put the crown on once my "angel" does the implant post. I thought a lot about it, though. I know to get any refund I'd have to go through some more formal grievance process with the medical board; usually the mediation they'll suggest is exactly what he's offering - to put in the crown for free. (well, it's not free, I already paid for most of it) But one thing he IS good at is cosmetic dentistry and I actually think he'll do ok with the crown for a couple of reasons. First, he now has 2 specialists who have spoken with him about me and he knows they'll be looking over his shoulder. In facrt he's the one who told my angel dentist to tell me he'd give me a new crown at no cost. I suspect my "angel" suggested he do that. And I also think he's got his tail between his legs right now. It was kind of a small satisfaction, but I won a small victory with him. I received a bill for the $300 that was still owed on the root canal work (HA!) and at first was furious. Then I sat back and strategized what would be in my best interest. So I wrote him a note that I was "confused" (like heck I was!) and that I thought this must have been an "oversight" in light of what my angel dentist had told me. And that I would appreciate he rectify this and send me a written confirmation of his agreement to put in the crown once my angel dentist says I'm ready for it. And he did it! Sent me a corrected bill, with a "zero" balance, and apologized for the "oversight" and confirmed that he would do the crown at n/c whenever I was ready. And signed it. I can't afford to go to another dentist and I'm not sure if i'd get any better. The other dentists want at least $1k for this! So I will let him do the crown, and if he messes it up I can complain formally after that. I just don't have it in me to make the time for a formal complaint against him right now. And don't think I'd have the support of even my angel dentist unless the new crown is screwed up. You know theses guys socialize together.

     Oh...my Lord Sandi!....the next time I need to hire someone for the office.....your Hired! You are a very thorough replyer! To answer your question, I will be 54 this next year, and I had my HA when I was 46. WOW!...what a dumb thing for a Dr to do...telling a patient they are going to have HA on the way to the hospital! I understand them sending you by ambulance, as a precaution, but he could have used a little more decretion about it!.....nothing like raising your blood pressure and keeping your nerves on edge! I'am on a couple meds for the old ticker and such: Crestor 40mg, Atenolol 25mg, Asprin 325mg, and a few vitamin's, Fish Oil 1000mg, One A Day Multivitamin, Vitamin B Complex, Move Free Joit Strengthener, Precocet #10 325mg x2 or as needed for BT, Oxycontin 30mg for my working hrs, and Oxycontin 20mg for my non working hrs and sleeping hrs, and a ton of Metamucil Capsules to keep from blowing my rear out while using the bathroom! :) My heart is doing good,  but it's time for me to get back in for my yearly check up with him. I also had surgery last year to have some Melanoma cut off my arm. I was one of the lucky ones and it was only a .6 when they caught it. But man!...did they ever cut a large chunk out of my arm! If I remember right, when you have a cloting plug put in where your Cath was inserted, they have to be very careful not to do the next one in the same place. I was told that the plug they put in stays there forever. Does this sound right to you? ...or is it something I just made up! :) If you have a FB account let me know, and I will send you an invite. I already have Dani and Boxer Lady on there. It's kinda cool to follow each others lives on a more personal basis, and its fun to see who your talking to. This techonolgy is a pretty cool thing now days, and I think one of our newest members here is from New Zeland....isn't that swell! :) I just love it! The hardest thing for me, is to keep up with it all, and I try soo hard to do so. The screen names here are the ones that gets me the most confused, as some of them look like something a man would use, but then I find out that it's a woman I'm talking to. I'm not going to point them out, cause I don't want to stirr up any trouble here! :) Well...I have way out done myself here....so it's time to go.........now Scram! :)

I'm glad that you are getting the crown and that it isn't going to cost you anymore than it has already. It doesn't surprise me that he sent you a bill but I do like the way you handled it, and got him to keep the promise he made to the oral surgeon that it wasn't going to cost you anything. Sometimes I think that doctors/dentists like the devil one think that we won't hold them to their promises. I'm glad that you did.

I had a confrontation with my daughter's orthodontist a few weeks back. He has been charging us an additional 200.00 a month since they have gone there, on top of what our dental insurance has paid him (2,650.00 per child). I called the insurance because after a recent appt. he told my daughters that we would have to now pay for each visit and any additional work that he does on top of what we've already paid him over the last two years, because he said that they had no more visits left. confused Our insurance pays for all of the ortho visits from start to finish and then the hardware, wires, etc that come with braces. When I told our insurance that he has had us pay an additional 2400.00 per kid over the last two years, on top of what he collected from the insurance, they said that he is breaking his contract with them and that we aren't supposed to be paying him one red cent on top of what he gets from them. mad t the next visit, I asked him about what he said and he told me that they don't have any visits left that the insurance will pay for, and that we would have to pay for them. So I then informed him that I had spoken to our insurance and what they said about the additional money. Then he tried to claim that he wasn't participating with our insurance when the girls first went to him, so I corrected that for him also since the insurance company was so nice in giving me the date he enrolled as a participating provider....anyway, I told him that he has ripped me off for all of the money he was going to rip me off for and that he is going to finish their ortho work , with no further payments from me. I told him that I will figure out what I want to do about the other money he has collected but that he has some explaining to do with the insurance company. I have filed a complaint with the medical ethics board, since what he is doing is a violation of the agreement that he has with the insurance company. Let him figure out how to fix that.  shocked   And our insurance is sending out letters reminding other people with it in our area that there is not supposed to be any "deductible" or copays when it comes to our dental insurance. So hopefully someone else won't be ripped off like we were.

Sorry I got sidetracked for a second....I hope that your crown turns out beautifully and that you don't have any more problems, but I don't think you will after all that you have had to go through to get this far.

I will let you guys know how things will turn out once I get through each appt....I may not make our Pack's Cub Scout meeting on Tuesday though and I am a bit disappointed. The boys have been working on a letter to the Heros in their lives and they are supposed to invite them to the Pack meeting and read their letters out loud to them. I think that there will be a lot of happy tears that night and I really don't want to miss it.  Maybe I can go in my wheelchair if the doctor won't let me go any other way. confused Sandi
