Typing and pain meds!

  I was just curious if anyone else has problems typing after their pain meds kick in.  I get up early to get my hubby off to work.  After he leaves I take my pain meds then sit down here at the computer with my cup of coffee.  I like to get on the forum to check in to see what all you late nighters and early risers have to say but as time goes on and my meds start kicking in my typing gets progressively worse.  Thank god I'm on a computer and not a typewriter cause I'd go crazy trying to make corrections.

Punch, to tell you the truth the fusions were a success in the surgeons eyes because I did fuse very well but I still have daily continuous lower back and neck pain. It did help with the radiating pain I had in my left arm & shoulder, also with the radiating pain from the femoral nerve being pinched which caused pain in the groin area then down the front of my right leg. It's been 3 yrs since my fusions, I am still getting injections, taking pain meds, muscle relaxers, tylenol anything to try to ease the pain. I hate to give you a bleak outlook but this is the way it is for me.

I'm now 52 yrs old and have had chronic pain for 9 yrs now. Mine is all hereditary from my father who became disabled at age 57 after 2 fusion surgeries. My sister also has chronic pain and just had her first back surgery. Arthritis has set in along with another bulging disc above my lumbar fusion (which is common after fusion).

I know there are people out there with great success stories after their fusion surgeries but this is a chronic pain forum so I don't think your going to hear alot of success stories here, if they aren't in pain there's not a reason to be here.

I don't mean to scare you Leisa but before my lumbar fusion I had waited until my pain was so bad I could hardly walk in an upright position anymore. I tried all the non-invasive procedures out there including injections, physical therapy, anti-inflammatories, never had real meds for pain due to my job (I worked around moving equipment and drove forklift for 10 yrs.) Sometimes I wish I hadn't waited so long because I think I may have made things worse by letting the nerves get so damaged from being pinched for so long.

Anyway, that's my horror story. Sorry I can't give you something more positive.

    Jag!....yes!....I have a terrible time with the mistakes after ythe meds kick in....and them I'm just shocked to see them. I make sure that spell checked is used whenever I can do so. It's just a part of the pain med thing I guess.

I don't take pain meds,they make me feel awful so when I really need something I take Tylenol Exta strength......

I don't think anyone on here should beat themselves up for misspells, typos, or grammer. I think we all can understand what is typed or what the typest means. Pain meds do make us a bit scrambled and spelling??? not a strong suit for me but I usually know enough letters in the word you can get the jest of what I mean and I'm goofy in the way I talk so it makes sense that I'd be goofy when I type. You do just fine EVERYONE!!!

I don't even take any prescription drugs in the morning and you should see what I type!   I have fibro and only take Advil...I have already made six...make that seven (I wrote sex) typing errors in this small post.  We had fun on the fibro forum one night.   We all typed the Star Spangled Banner without using the backspace or delete button on our computers.  It was without a doubt the funniest thread I have ever seen.  I wish I had saved it...nothing like endorphins to ease the pain!

I not only find that I am fuzzy with the meds, but I have problems with how do I want to say this, allot of time I will type the right letters that spell the word but the letters are often in the wrong order, like just now before I corrected it I wrote "wrong" as "worng" and I often do "the" as "hte" I do that allot when I type, it is like the brain and the fingers are not it sync! I do have problems using my hands, and arms, maybe that is part of it. I do try and proof read what I write before hitting submit, but often I see I missed something afterwards, and sometimes I will go back and edit it, other times I just say to heck with it! Anyway Jag you are not alone, I think the pain meds in general has affected my memory and brain function, either that or the damage from the sleep apnea before being treated. I know for fact I lost some brain cells from that, before I finally got the proper treatment!
