Sorry I have not been in contact.  My computer just spent three week with the Geeks from the Geeks Squad.  It went in for a broken hinge and ended up needing a new hard drive.  Thank goodness I purchased the all inclusive repair plan.

If nothing else goes wrong--I am back.

Wow, glad it was the computer down and not you Stella Marie. When you had not been posting I was afraid you were not doing well. So, very glad to know you are ok. I am afraid my computer is getting ready to go south too. The fan kicks on and does not know when to turn off or it tries to come on and is real slow. Mine is too old for the geek squad too. I do know I called the Geek Squad once and I could buy a new system for what they wanted to just come to the home. So glad you had a policy in effect to cover the work needed.

Like Straydog said I'm glad it was the computer and not you, but I cringe at the thought of my computer going down, and for most of us it's not "if" but "when" and since I know nothing about them, I have to take them somewhere. Fortunately, Mac's are pretty dependable. Mine is just older and slow with the dial up connection, and I do notice an older browser is increasingly making thiings slower. Whenever someone mentions the word "upgrade" I start to go into panic mode! LOL

I too am glad to see you back! Isn't funny how reliant we become on the computer? With this forum and ones like it, They become an important part of our daily lives, and if something happens that we can nolonger get to or participate in these forums, we miss them desparately! It is like a portion of our lives have been taken away from us! Anyway I am glad you got your computer fixed and you are now back with us!

I do have a little tip for our folks out there. We buy Norton anti-virus every year, the disc not from the internet, you can get it at Walmart or any big box store. You are able to download this to 3 computers. If you are short on funds you can share the cost with a friend or two and all get covered. A friend of mine and I used to do this. One year I would buy it then give it to her to download. Then the next year it would be her turn to buy.

bs I too have an anti-virus program but mine is McAffes. It came with my ISP and they update it through their site. Pretty cool that my internet provider helps in such a way.

Stella....I am so glad to see you back. I wondered where you had gone and now I know LOL. Hey I feel for ya hun! I too have frequent cp problems that need a tech, and for that I have Dell's extended warrentee so that all I have to do is call them (oh...and try to understand what they are saying) and boom the puter is fixed.

anyway, welcome back hun. Really missed ya!!!

    My Lady...you have a Mac? :) We just switched over to and iMac..and is the best thing we have ever done...as far as computers go. We love it! No more Viruses! Wahoo! For all of you PC fans out there...and we still use them....most all of the computer tech's use AVG anti-virus software...and there is a free version on line too. It's considered the best by many a computer geek. Like any software you have to keep it updated in order for it to work. We didn't do that latley...and caught a bad one....and got all of ours...five of them! All networked together! Terrible timing...as we needed the information off the business computers for the sale. and last but not least....keep a back up of all your documents! We were working on computer problems all the time....and I finally put my foot down....and made the switch! Hope you all have a wonderful day!

I've never had anything but apples. I was teaching back in the mid 80's and they had an "apple for the teacher" program and that's how I bought my first one. Since I am no computer geek, I found Mac's so much easier to use...so much more intuitive, that I could actually figure them out through trial and error! Plus they don't get the viruses PC's do. I'm surprised with you in photography you weren't using Mac's along time ago, but glad you made the switch now! They're great - just more expensive if you buy them new. I actually bought this one from a man I met on ebay who works for a school district in California. I bought my first little, tiny baby laptop from him on ebay, and he always did right by me. So he sold me this ibook that was only a few months old, but someone in the school district spilled coffee on it. He replaced all the parts, etc., and I got it for a few hundred dollars and that was several years ago. Wish I could afford one with a bigger screen, though, especially with these aging eyes!

Welcome back Stella computer problems are horrible to say the least. This time of year I do nearly all of my Christmas shopping on line so without it I'd be screwed. I purchased my laptop when I retired and it has been a good investment for me especially since I've been a professional patient it seems since I retired.

We use an antivirus that we download from the internet it is called Avast. Our son-in-law is a puter weiner and he put us on to it and we just renew it each year and it is FREE. Good luck with your new hard drive!!!
