My doctor recently 1 1/2 weeks ago upped my zanaflex (muscle relaxer) from 2 mg to 6 mg..I though he was going to do 4mg, but he went straight to the 6mg, well it makes me sleepy and last night I was in target and got lost in the Christmas isle calling my hubby as (he'd parked the car) as I honestly didn't know where I was, he came running and found me, but this has me scared I then acted like I was wasted from what my hubby told me...I'm very scared as I got to go to Christmas Eve 7 p.m. services (daughter is playing her flute for the whole church/ 2 mannheim steam roller pieces) and I don't need to be falling asleep or acting stupid...this medicine is still making me loopy and I've been on it for 2 weeks..HELP...I only have 2- 2mg of zanaflex left...not enough for a good withdrawal ...what should I do...I gotta see my daughter perform, she's absolutly wonderful on her Flute...I see my PM doctor next week and can't get in today...I only take this med at night, so I can drive during the day..I never drive at night anymore...
well wish me good luck, I need to get thru Thursday night intact...any ideas would be helpful....

Call your doctor ASAP and tell him that the 6 mg pills are too strong for you and ask him to call in a script for either more of the 2 mg or the 4 mg.

     Chart, I agree with Jim here on this one, but I don't know how long it takes for your body to adjust to this med. Maybe in a few day, you will have adjusted to it. I'm staying home this year and will not go to the family gatherings, as it is just too hard on me.

Chart, my 2mg zanaflex have the line for cutting in half do the 6mg? I was prescribed 1-2 tablets but found that 4mg is too much for me. I do break in half sometimes for a 3 mg dose.

Hi Char,

Wow, that is pretty scary! I agree with everyone, I'd talk to your doctor about dropping down the dosage, clearly 6 mg is too much for you. Also, do you take it more than once a day? Because if you only take it once a day, maybe you can take it right before you go to sleep, so that you'll be less sleepy during the day. ((((((Char))))))))

I absolutely agree with everyone who's said call your doctor ASAP. They can always call in a lower dose, and if the tablets are scored you can ask if you can just cut them in half. IF they're not scored, you won't be able to do that. If you can't get to your doctor (try hard, use the on-call number if you need to) then call your pharmacist.

Oh Chart, that must have been horable for you! I'm so glad your hubby was there to save you!!! I'll say like the others, call your doc. If he doesn't get back to you, call your reg doc and explain what happened. If that doesn't work, if there are any walkin clinics around you, take your perscription bottle there and ask the doc if he will write you a short script just to hold you over till you can see your P/M!! That med is not a narcotic and rarely abused so the doc can call it in to the pharm for you.

I tried 4-5 times this morning to get through to the Doctors, but they are gone for Christmas..The 2 mg has score marks and is generic zanaflex, but the 6mg is a capsule can't be scored and is not generic...So what I was thinking is taking the 2 -2mgs I have left tomorrow night and after that I'm not needing to go anywhere now at night, shopping is done, so I'm hopeing to be good and will talk this over with the Doctor next Tuesday...Fingers crossed that this'll be okay...I definitely know the 6mgs is to much for me...
Thanks so much, I just had to think of a good solution and Y'all really help, it's very much appreciated..I'm so glad y'all could help as I was getting scared..I've never gotten losted in a store before like that last night and it was not crowded...

Oh Chart do I ever understand...I was in rehab when they started me on 12 mg at bedtime, plus the Baclofin, plus the Robaxin what a huge dose but if I didn't take that I was in terrible pain all night. They kept me on that treatment for over a year and I was a zombie after I took my bedtime meds. During the day I took 2mg 3x's a day and that alone made me sleepy. Mine were always generic and scored. How scarey that must have been for you I'm sorry you had to go through that. I hope you can get things worked out and I agree that you need call you doc and good luck with that cause they are so difficult to get to during the holiday. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the 2 2mg tabs sound like a plan to me. yeah

Take your prescription with you and go to the Pharmacy that you got the script filled at and talk to them about it, and ask them if they have it in a tablet form that you can cut in half! What I am concerned about is maybe they gave you something else?????? I know that the prwscriptions can come in different forms, but I find that a little unusually considering that your other script is a tablet and not a capsule, and with the reaction your having to it. Especially since you have been taking it is a lesser strength! and having been on it for two weeks and it is still giving you these wierd affects! Play it safe and bring the meds with you and check with the Phamacy where you got them meds. If everything is OK maybe they can give you some suggestions on what to do! And if it comes in a tablet form maybe they can give you it in the tablets so you can split them! I think it is worth trying anyway!

It's amazing how certain meds affect certain people so differently... I also take Zanaflex....the 6 mg. at 1  1/2 at a time...and they don't do anything to me...they don't really even help me with the muscle spasms...

 

I concur with the others that say you should call the Dr. to get the 4 mg. tabs called in...I wouldn't want you falling asleep while your daughter is playing the flute....

One Neurologist wanted to switch me from Baclofen to Zanaflex I didn't think it did any thing either and it sure didn't do anything to stop or control the muscle spasms. I ended up staying on the Baclofen and they just upped my dose a little! It does great controlling my spasms and it doesn't make me dopey! But your right everyone is so different with differet meds!

The 4mg dose helped but still very sleepy and my hubby video our daughter's performance on his cell phone, it was good...
at least I was awake for her performance and almost fell asleep for the sermon, noded off twice...
maybe on Tuesday I'll ask if there is a different muscle relaxer I might be able to try, so wish me luck for Tuesday...

Chart,

I have been on 4 mg Zanaflex for over a year.  They prescribed it to take throughout the day which is impossible as it makes me totally loopy.  I take 2 at bedtime and within 20 minutes I'm a goner.

Just went for my re check and they insist I need to be on it during the day and I told them no way!!

So I'm now being switched to Skelexin which he says does not cause the fatigue, we'll see!!

You usually have great advice for me so maybe just maybe i can help YOU>

I take Flexeril 10 mg tab 3 x daily for my fm and spine issues.  Maybe you could try that med.

I believe it can be in a lwr dose as well.

There is a new Extended release muscle relaxer called Amrix out there now.  You may ask for a sample or a small amount scrip to try.

I hear in the Fibro Boards alot of people take Malic Acid/Magnesium for muscle pain may want to try that yourself.  I take Vit D 2000 iu everyday myself.

I hope you can find a good med and dosage that is helpful to you. 

I also agree with White Beard to at least go back to Pharm and see if this is what it says it is on pill bottle.  Also maybe the pharmacist will give you a 3 day amount of old dose.

Char how much snow did you get in the Houston area? We had a good bit in Ft Worth and had a white Christmas to boot. It was awesome to say the least. Are you doing any better on the 4mg of Zannaflex? I was on them for about 3 yrs or so and loved it. I could take the 4mg and go about my little way and it helped spasms very well for me. I never got loopy of it. It was the first muscle relaxer that I have taken that worked and did not make me goofy, loved it. Now I am on Baclofen and its ok, not sure I really like it. I can't do as much taking it like I could the Zannaflex thats for sure. Take care and let us know how you are doing.
