Tomorrow's Apt!

I have my First appointment with the physiatrist tomorrow......dont quite know what to expect, but VERY happy to be going! Wish me luck!!!

What a jerk!! Don't give up, there is someone out there that can help you. Your PCP may think again before ever referring someone there again. This is not uncommon and happens alot more than it should tho. We do have to advocate many times for decent care so keep pushing on finding another dr.

Sorry to hear that your appointment didn't go well. It seems like for every good doctor there are 5 other bad doctors. It takes a while to find the right one(s), but you'll find them, keep searching!

Are there any other physiatrists in your area? I forget, was it a PM or your PCP who referred you to the physiatrist. If it was your PCP, maybe you can look for a good PM & the PM might even know a good physiatrist.

Don't let this one bad appointment get you too down in the dumps. I know how disappointing & frustrating it is, but I also know that you are going to find that great doctor -- they are out there. You just need to go through the bad to find the good. I can't even begin to tell you all my stories about all the bad doctors that I had to go through before I found the wonderful team of doctors that I have now (with the exception of one -- am trying to replace him, but its a very unusual specialty & I think I've gone through most of the others in the area & all were worse than this guy).

I've had a couple of very bad physiatrists. I think they are trying to make sure you do absolutely everything before moving you onto pain meds. It's one thing if you're just starting out with treatment - a physiatrist can be excellent (if he/she's a good one) because they really understand PT and everything, but once you've gone all those routes I don't think physiatrists are too keen on pain meds. I'd ask for a referral to someone certified in pain management who does comprehensive pain management - which includes medications.

Lucy - I think Donna saw a physiatrit, not a psychiatrist - isn't that right, Donna?

He was refered by the surgeon that did my surgery.

I WILL NEVER GO TO ANOTHER DR AT SWEDISH AGAIN!!

I have had so many problems with them since b4 the surgery anyways...and they are supposed to be the best?? HA!

I will be calling the Spine Specialist today and asking him for help.   Wish me luck........again.
