can't sleep from the pain in my leg , I hate to live like this I haven't slept thru the nite in months , its got me over the edge , I hate living now.The pain in my leg is agony from cellulitus my knee is swollen and painful.Lying down is impossible the pain is so very very , very painful . I just can'tdo it, its beyond my capacity for pain . I'm hopless the pain will increase and I want to help but can't do anything  but cry , for my situation , for my pain ..I only have one option. boy I hate my life right now .

For the past several months I have been getting my best sleep sitting in my recliner. When I do manage sleep in the bed my legs have been swelling to the point it wakes me up. As far as sleeping through the night though I haven't been able to sleep more than 4-5 hours for years. First it was my job driving semi trucks. I did better sleeping a few hours and then driving about 1/2 my daily allotment and the sleeping and finishing the "day". Now it is the pain than keeps me up most nights.

about the only thing I know of that may help is to elevate your leg and to keep it elevated as much as possible through out the day and when you try to sleep. This may help reduce the swelling and some of the pain.

Ithank you JIM1969 raising my leg is agony as well , thats why I want to go crazy . Everyone has said raise your leg I can't do it and the result is horrible , thanks for reaching out friend

Mikel Lee! I hope you are sleeping well now and that you are not in pain if only for a little while. I've been up since 12:30 am, I got a full hour! WooHoo! If you are still up, holler becasue I can assure you I am going to be!!!! Take care!

I don't think I've welcomed you to the forum yet, and I apologize for not yet having read your other thread. There may have been a lot of suggestions given to you on that thread, and I don't want to repeat what may have already been said, but your desperation concerns me.

My hunch is you don't have good pain management yet, but again you don't have to repeat your story again for me. Please don't take this wrong, but have you considered seeing a pain psychologist or therapist to help you manage the depression and frustration that goes with the search for good pain management? Many of us struggle with depression, and take anti-depressants (I do) and they can help with pain as well as depression. No, they don't cure our pain, but can help with our ability to manage it, and make choices for our lives.

Just some thoughts, but please don't interpret this as my saying your pain is all in your head or anything like that!

I don't know much about dealing with cellulitus. Would ice or heat help give you a bit of temporary relief? Notice I say this as I'm writing at nearly 5am! My days and nights are all screwed up! LOL

Mikel, is the pain in your leg caused from the cellulitis or from the fact that you need the hip replacement? Sounds like you really need to discuss with your doctor about getting your pain under control until you can get both problems under control. Maybe your doctor could refer you to a Pain Management doctor and PaLady's suggestion of a pain psychologist is good information. They could give you some information in relaxation techniques.

Not sure if you would be a candidate for some form of injection to alleviate some of the issues in your hip until you are able to have the surgery. I think you've started on antibiotics for the cellulitis. Did your doctor give any indication as to how soon you should expect some results?

When reclineing with your legs elevated would it help to place a pillow under your knees? Let us know how your doing. Sorry I can't be of more help!

bsjaguar, PAlady,and CATZ , THANKS TO YOU ALL FRIENDS . The hip does impose agony if I try to lift the leg , it really is horrible .The history is I went for hip replacement , myt-cells were undert 4oo(hiv+) changed antivirals to boost t-cells , caught this nightmare so now hip agony , leg swollen and torture . They thought it was dermatalogical , gave me cream which took away redness and some swelling but tightness of skin , swelling and pain persisted and still do till now but just started anti-biotics 3 days ago , waiting to see after a week and then take a look at it .But its a horrid predicament , sleep almost non existant , pain constant from somewhere . Thats me right now , thanks for the interest friends .

I can relate. I don't sleep through the night either. I can't remember the last time I did. I usually get about 3 hrs of broken sleep. It's of a really lousy quality too. My pain is in my eye & so REM (rapid-eye movement) sleep is very painful for me, so I often wake up shortly after entering REM, if I even get there. At times I feel like a zombie - I just do everything on autopilot & barely function. This week has been a little better for me. We changed my meds recently & I actually got 5 hrs of pretty good sleep one night! I can't remember the last time that happened! I was so thrilled, but in general I hardly sleep. Not sleeping certainly makes everything worse -- the pain, fatigue, depression. Unfortunately it's hard to fix the sleep thing without fixing the pain. Just know that you are not alone!
