Well, I go in for my first injection tomorrow.

I am a little scared, but hope it help!!!

We also get our new tempurpedic bed delivered tomorrow, so hopefully it will be a win win for me!

I want to wish you good luck with the injections and I hope that they can help, or give you some relief.
Keep us posted when you can and make sure to have ice packs as you do need to ice the injection site for the first 24 hours..

Good luck with the injection...I hope you find relief quickly and that it's long lasting. And as for your new bed...all I can say is I AM JEALOUS!!!!

Okay, seriously, I hope that it's fantastic, and you start getting good sleep and wake up pain free!!

Donna,

Good luck tomorrow! I hope that the injection makes a huge difference for you! Is it a nerve block or just an injection of steroids or something?

The bed sounds great too! It'll definitely be something to look forward to. Tomorrow could be a very good day for you!

Donna, I'll be thinking of you tomorrow. I'm in the process of having diagnostic injections for facet syndrome in lumbar spine and so far so good. What type of injection are you having? I've had alot of different injections over the years and am still here so just relax but do use a cold pack afterwards if it is ok with your doctor.

Honestly, I dont know what type of injection it is.......
Also, I just got my Dr to fill out FMLA paperwork for me! YEA!
It states that I need a reduced schedule due to flare-ups and episodes can last 4-8 hours or 1-2 days at a time. And that I must be allowed to leave early when I need to. Question....I am on salary, so if I work at least 4 hours, I get paid for all 8. Does anyone know if because of this paperwork they can legally change me from salary to hourly?????

Donna, I have no advice as far as how you would be paid for FMLA. That would probably be something you'd want to discuss with your companies HR department. I've always been a hourly worker.

There are alot of different types of injections: trigger point, nerve block, epidural and the list goes on. It's up to you but I would want as much information as possible before proceeding such as the type of injection, pain control during injection (my doctor puts me in la la land with an IV), amount of relief expected and for how long, possible side effects or potential problems. Hopefully your doctor will cover all of this with you beforehand but it would have been nice if you'd had more information upfront so you could have done some research.

Donna, I sure hope you do well tomorrow with whatever injection you get! I've had them all and icing it down is a very, very good idea! I must admit, I am terribly envious that Jag's doctor uses IV's and la la land!!! I've had all of mine gritting my teeth! But then from what I've heard lately, I'm not in the best of pain management groups! As far as your bed....oooo la la!! I have one and I think you are going to be delighted! Oh and the last injections I got, I felt better for about an hour (my body reacts differently to everything!) and in that hour, I was telling my husband to stop at this store and that and by the time I got home, I was miserable! My point is, take it easy, go home with ice and rest! I hope you feel up to letting us know what kind of injections you are getting and how it went! Take care!!

Good luck with the injection. You should be fine; most of us have survived many of these! But whether or not they help is another question. Hopefully, yours will. And at least you have your new bed to look forward to - I love my tempurpedic!

Re: FMLA I would check with your HR person, and maybe even call an attorney that specializes in employment law. FMLA is unpaid leave, and it can be broken down to as little as 1 hr. increments. You only get a total of 12 weeks worth per year, so you don't want to be charged for 4 hours off if you're only leaving an hour early (for example). And I doubt they'll pay you for the full 8 hrs. if you're claiming FMLA. You might be able to find an attorney who will give you a free telephone consult - or charge you very little.

Hi Donna,

First, I would like to wish you the best on your procedure. I hope they give you the la la land option, but my PM dr doesn't do that. Heat seemed to help me more than the cold, but each person is so different.

As far as the FMLA goes, please be very careful about how you use this time. Make sure with your HR person (and your boss) that the time is being considered correctly. As PALady said, you only get 12 weeks per year and I found out the hard way that you can be put on contingency leave immediately upon exhaustion of FMLA. Thankfully I pulled a rabbit out of a hat on that one and had my regular sick and annual leave remaining (since I used short term disability), but they added the FMLA while I was using STD and then put me on contingency leave. With the employer I had, you could not file for medical retirement, leave donation, or return of forfeited leave if you had been placed on contingency leave. Basically, they could fill my job and I could not return. I was a 20 year employee who had always exceeded expectations in my job, but my "newest" boss had a personal grudge and I was stuck! I was blessed in the long run and did get the medical retirement, but only because of a great bunch of friends at the highest management level. Please be careful!

**Update**

 

Went in yesterday for the injection...

 

It was an Epidural Steroid injection

 

So, I got there, they started the IV, (yes, I get la la land) and waited in pre-op to go on in. The doc called me & my hubby back to the OR and he wanted to "talk". He said that he didnt feel the injection would help the pain I am having and wanted me to reconsider it and speak with my refering doctor to figure it out!

So, needless to say, went thru all that for NOTHING!

I am still in so much pain.

Then, my bed came yesterday as well....It was so comfy!

But then, I had the worst night sleep ever!!! I was up half the night!

I guess I will have to give it some time & break it in.

So I am back at square one with everything!

Oh, and I only have 2 pain pills left till Monday!!!

I just dont know what to do anymore.

You'd think your doctor would have thought of that all BEFORE the actual appointment! Jeez! Did your insurance still have to pay for the "injection?" Sorry you didn't get the relief you were looking for. Hopefully the new bed gets broken in fast so that you can get a good night's sleep.

Goodness Donna what a mess!!!! I really hope you don't get charged for a useless visit. I would think, however, that the Dr. would gladly write you another prescription to pick up tomorrow. It probably slipped his/her mind because of the changes and surely he/she wouldn't want you in pain needlessly.

I can honestly say that I believe the Dr to have made a good decision if they thought the procedure was not going to be successful. Nobody should have to go through extra pain for something that will likely not work. It's not good for your body or for your purse.

None the less.....I hope you are able to find some relief for the pain. I find that getting your hopes up for relief and having them dashed is a horrible addition to the stress and pain becomes worse than ever.

Went in and talked to my Dr yesterday.
He wants me to go get a bone scan on the 4th.
Then got a referal to a pain management clinic!!!!
YEA! I didnt even ask for it, he brought it up!!
He also changed my meds to oxycontin 30mg 2x per day.
Hopefully this will help!! I know last night I finally fell asleep around 11:30 and was OUT like a light. I almost called in sick to work today just so I could finally get some sleep. But, I sucked it up and came to work anyways.....Maybe I will make it a short day...heehee

      Good morning. It is always good to hear from you. I hope today, with you new medicine combination, you are able to relax and maybe even get a little nap in. Be sure to keep us updated on how the medicine changes work for you.

 

      I am sorry  you had to go through all the post op stuff for nothing. That had to be frustraiting. I am glad, however, that you going to a pain management clinic, this could really be something good. It is awesome they are going to move forward with a bone scann aswell. I just had one done myself this past monday.

 

       I am sorry, but I have to get going, but!! I do hope you have a little less pain today. Youve waited a long time for much needed relief and its about time you got some much needed help! Stay strong!

I am feeling SO much better! Not quite 100%, but deffinatly better!
I would say now that I am on the new med, my consistant pain levels are a 3-4.
Much more tolirable!! As I said b4, I go in for my bone scan on Thursday (3/4) and then the pain clinic on 3/17 for the epidural steroid injection, then back again on 3/29 for pain med discussion.
I have also slep SO good on my new tempurpedic bed. I love it. I am actually sitting here at work right now thinking about my bed!!! Haha

That's great news on both the injection and bed fronts! It's wonderful the injection may be helping someone - so many of us have them without much relief, but I think when they do help it's a good sign they've located the source of at least some of your pain.

And the bed....my tempurpedic is the place where I have the least pain, so I can sure understand your daydreaming about it! Sometimes I wish I could just like in it all day!
